It's been in the teens here for the last few weeks and snowy, which means too cold for barefeet. I hardly feel like myself...and my feet miss the earth! *cries* I long for a warm climate.
Maybe if you had some way to keep your feet warm before and after you go somewhere and if wherever you go outside isnt too far away then maybe it wouldnt be so bad to go out barefoot. I dont think being barefoot outside when its cold is necessarily bad it just depends on how long youre out there and how well you can keep your feet warm before and after you go out.
That's my way of thinking. I can't stand extremem tempatures for very long. Short trips are just fine though~
I just feel that if someone really wants to go barefoot, depending on what theyre trying to do, theyll find a way to do it
You obviously don't live in Michigan! Being outside for more than about two minutes with any bare skin usually constitutes extreme redness and almost immediate frostbite... Any of you that think they are hard core barefooters need to come to Michigan and try it here in December and January...if you can do it, I give you credit...because I know I sure can't do it. Personally, I like all my toes...I don't want to lose any of them.
Damn right! The high here today in Michigan was 22, that's 10 degrees below the point where water turns to ice! Keep in mind also, that it's still gonna get colder. The ground is frozen solid, so there's not even any mother nature to walk on. The only thing your soles will feel is the frostbite kicking in. Michigan sadly, is a shod state from mid November until the end of April
I can relate to this. I was your neighbor to the south, an Ohio resident for several years. I started feeling depressed right around Labor Day and it lasted way into April. It seems like eveyone gave up on Summer and put away the flip flops and replaced barefeet with shoes, even though it was warm enough for a couple more weeks. I'd always weather the change, but not without a fight. My feet were bare and in flip flops until I could'nt stand it any longer when finally I went down to defeat from the snow and cold.
haha...the joke is that despite Washington temps probably not even getting close to what you folks are used to, it's pretty much a shoddy's world for the same amount of time. I can count on one hand the number of people I've seen with sandals on since about mid-October when the temps started dropping. The lowest thus far I've had challenge me was one morning when it dipped to around 25, and while I am glad that I didn't have to stand outside for very long in that weather, I was tempted to wear my cold weather boots that day. Then I talked some sense into myself and just put the heater on full in the car instead, and did my best to rub my feet and keep the blood flowing.
I am not trying to intentionally make anyone jealous but it was 80 here Saturday and I was outside putting up Christmas lights barefoot.
DancerAnnie, I understand you. It's so cold in montreal that I have to put on shoes...dreadful. I can't wait for spring to come back!
It's been in the 30's here a lot lately. Doesn't stop me. You just gotta start out slow, and work up a tollerence. when I go outside for a smoke, I usually walk around on the cold wet grass. We had snow here since Friday, which then turned to ice. It finally melted today, but I was out walking around in the snow barefoot, and it didn't bother me at all. The cool thing about it, is when I come back inside, 10 minutes later, my feet feel totally warm.
if you could only walk in snow for a few minets it would be ok, its when you step off the snow and its hovering around 0 it realy bites. wool socks rock around the house though
If it was just cold, I wouldn't mind. But they put small rocks and abrasive salt on the sidewalk, which is just too much...
