I did not know anything about the poison oak and did not seem to have any problems. Then when I was told about it, that it is poisonous, and found the pictures of it, it started coming into my sight at so many places, even when I try to avoid it; and it sometimes seems like something I am physically drawn to.
I don't remember what it looks like, and I've never encountered it... maybe ignorance really is bliss??? That sucks for you. If you come in contact with it, I heard you're supposed to pour a little bleach on it and then rinse really well as soon as possible. Never tried it, though. But I did see my friend do it once. He lived.
I would'nt reccomend that you put bleach on it, unless you know for a fact that it is fresh, and that you have'nt been scratching at it. Poison oak and ivy is a bitch. I'm allergic to it, and I barefoot, and it's everywhere. You just have to really keep your eyes out for it. The last time I got it, my face swelled up like a chipmunk and got all red, and my throat closed up and I almost died. My doctor says I'll probably die the next time I get it. Just keep your eyes on the ground and always bring tecnu on camping trips and stuff. Also, remember that once the plant has died(like if you spray some stuff on it), it'll still have oils on it. I'm not sure, but I think if you burn it too, the smoke is poisonous.
once in oakland, CA, after a huge fire which blew smoke down into the park where we were picknic-ing, my brother and i went home only to slightly swell up the next day. turns out the forrest that was burning was thick with poison ivy and the smoke was poisonous too? i was very little so i dont remember it perfectly but we have pictures
Leaves of three then let it be. I'm highly allergic to poison ivy and oak. Jewel weed aka Spotted Touch me Not will cure poison ivy. It also works as a prevenative. Jewelweed usually grows near poison ivy and in damp soil. Take the whole plant (sans roots) and crush the stem and leaves. This will produce a slimmy sap. Rub the sap on you skin after exposure to poison ivy or on rash if already exposed. I used this remedy while hiking the Appalachian Trail and never got poison ivy. Consult a book on wild plants to see a picute of jewelweed. In the meantime Don't scratch!
Oh man, I used to get Poison Ivy so bad! I wouldn't even have to touch it to get it. I could just be walking around outside one day, not around any Poison Ivy, then wake up the next day with the bumps ALL over my entire body! (And yes that includes the penis with totally sucks ass... I know from too many experiences :&). I used to have to take off school for weeks at a time to heal. I have also been to the emergency room for it before. The doctor did tell me before that if Poison Ivy was ever burned around me, that the smoke would probably cause Poison Ivy in my throat and that I would likely die... that was scary to hear. Also, one time I had stepped in Poison Ivy and didn't know it, and I kept getting more and more rashes because I kept wearing the same shoes. Beware of that. We all know that "penis Poison Ivy" sucks, but so does getting it inbetween your fingers and on the bottom of your feet. That is just awful...
the burning of poison oak/ivy results in death because the shit reacts in your lungs just like on your skin, and you cant itch your lungs now can you?
got it inbetween my toes once... toes were oozing puss for months... and not your sissy puss, its the nasty ass, just barily see through yellow puss.
