Tis better to have been a part time revolutionary,
than to have never been a revolutionary at all!

p.s. I confess, I bought a bloody mary at a bar on 11-25, but I did not set foot in a store.

The whole thing was only geared towards the retail shopping, nothing else, so when they start doing their figures it would show up. The last quarter makes or breaks the retailers annual figures and if they are doing bad...then they know Bush isn't doing his job right for the economic stability of the country. It seems like thats the only thing his supporters understand..the reason they lowered the rates on mortgages after the last shitty christmas when he got into office, to bolster the economy and get people to spend again so that everyone would be lulled back to sleep and it worked! The Fucktard got reelected by doing just that kinda bandaid bullshit! okokokok.....

I don't live in poverty, lmao! Neither am I consumed with shopping. I just shop wisely and second hand if/when I can. Hell, I got my son an excellent set of golf clubs with a leather bag and all the club covers, even had the umbrella. They could stand to be regripped but they are still ok too.... I spent a whopping $10.00 instead of $1000.00 or more they would cost brand new. If thats being an idiot, glad I am one then!

Oh...I'm so sorry! *snickers huuugely!* Rampant consumerism and credit debt is sooooooooo much better and living intelligently!

The video from the 80s by the Talking Heads 'Once In A Lifetime' conveyed the idea of everyone working all their lives for money and property and then realizing in the the end that it was 'the same as it ever was'. Most of us have a way of getting enveloped with materialism to some extent and using it as a way of escaping reality or putting off the question of whether there is anything in life that really matters.

    What the hell dude?!?!?!

Not everything is a debate and just beacause you disagree with a concept or lifestyle doesn't make that person an idiot.

    Lighten up.

Why do you post on here at all?

I can agree with the point you are trying to convey but maybe you can see the insanity of a false sense of a good economy too. Much of it is smoke and mirrors, done with debt. Yes, at this point a false sense of security is better than having the economy crash but wouldn't it be better to have an economy that actually is doing well? I listened on the news how unemployment was down here from the numbers in 2001...but what isn't reflected is how many of those people here actually are in jobs that pay less, less hours or no benefits. The economy my friend, is not really doing well, at least not in this neck of the woods. Smoke and mirrors ... remortgaging homes and credit debt is like putting a freaking bandaid on a shark bite!

no the initial meaning of the campaign was to gain awareness of the consumer culture we have developed, especially purchasing products from abroad instead of buying local produce. which would help the US economy in the long term.

the real force behind this movement is the group Adbuster whose economist can see a US economy callapse and are coming up with ways in which it can be prevented.

i really like that cooloner, i never have liked the commercialism of christmas, it is a holiday made for shoppers to buy, buy and buy more useless junk to make the large corporations more richer. it has nothing to do with jesus birth at all. i hate the santa claus crap too and the same with the easter bunny. get back to the real meaning of christmas and easter. i try not to spend any money for gifts, i usually just down load a cd or give something away that i've made or baked.
