Anyone out there a sculptor at all? I've been customizing model horses for a long time, (lots of resculpting involved when changing legs, necks, etc) and I just recently starting working on an OS (original sculpture.) I'm quite curious to find out if anyone on here sculpts, I see alot of drawers and painters..

Here's a link to horses I have worked on. The only difference here is I "customize" them. They come from a company "Breyer." They make model horses and some people buy broken ones or beat up ones and resculpt them. I really would like to try doing my own sculptures of horses. But for now I am content to learn the ropes of just resculpting. http://community.webshots.com/user/cement_rose
I sculpt mainly using plaster - Many of the pieces are for gardens and its taken three years to find a combination of materials that will withstand the rigours of the seasons. I have some pieces on and in a wall by a footpath - youngish kids 4 to 10 seem most fascinated by them. A Humpty Dumpty , and one with faces - lots of alien faces - seem to get their attention and they enjoy touching them. The majority of pieces are between 2 & 3 feet high - weight limits size for me. I have begun making teeth - large and anatomically accurate - it's surprising how complex they are. I spent a number of years making crowns & bridges for clinical use as a dental ceramist. Making the large scale versions is somehow more challenging. Something I have searched for but haven't found yet is a material that is to some extent transluscent. Most gypsum based products are very opaque even in layers of 1mm -any ideas? Any ideas gratefully received Woland
My main focus right now is ceramics, so I sculpt a lot of clay. I throw on the wheel occationally, but I mainly do hand building. I've dabbled in other mediums, but lately, I've been spending all my time with clay.
I noodle around with Sculpey clay. I think I still have one of my series of Tolkein related figures posted in my gallery if you're interested. Lately I've been more into paper bead making.
i alter objects and create found object sculpture. mainly, i create miniature assemblages in candy tins.
I do figurative sculpture in plaster and terra cotta. A buddy of mine does stone work. A few years ago he & I visited Carrara to see the marble pits. Serious carving there ! Carlo Nicoli's studio is a "must-see".
sculpture, umm yep. sculpt gemstones and softstones. have extensive collection of rocks for such purposes. many translucents. oldest rock ive carved: 3.2billion(stromatolitic soapstone from australia) sorry, just had to throw that useless fact in there.
took ceramics 1 and 2 in high school. as far as i could get with other requirements to be made. love to throw on the wheel. but the idea of taking a ball of clay and just going really excites me.
Ive done sculptures for a copple of years, but lately I switched back to painting and drawing again, here's most of my work: http://jean-paull.info
