if you know iced earth then you know blind guardian, demons and wizards, and nevermore, in high school all i listened to was those 4 bands and got into trouble because i wrote nevermore lyrics in one of my paintings, then got counseled for ignorant shit

You're a victim of the ignorance. But it often happens in the world... In the communist period in Bulgaria the teachers cuted the hair of the long-haired boys which listened Led Zep and Deep Purple.

Lol, I did pentagrams and inverted crosses everywhere and drew people impaled and pierced with spears and everything everywhere and no one gave a shit.

Hm, I've been drawing and story-writying about horrible deaths ever since I've been likeseven years old or something...

Anyway, Iced Earth are great, I've had the honour of seeing them live with Matt still in the line-up, not too many people my age that can say so (it was my first concert as well). Their lates album doesn't really cut it for me though. Some decent tunes but overall too mediocre. And I miss Matt's unique vocals.

Cool. :) I've never listened to Nevermore. Exploring music in a whole other direction now anyway.

The problem is that Ripper has such a standard heavy / power metal voice, with the really high shrieks and everything, and there's such a lot of bands with similar vocals. Matt's voice was one of a kind. He could also put so much emotion into it. And he had 100 times the hair and the charisma.

Tim 'Ripper' Owens filled in for Halford in Judas Priest until a few years ago.

Iced Earth will never be the same without Matt Barlow. I especially love how he remade all the older songs with the crappy vocalists like Gene Adams and John Greeley on Days of Purgatory. Ripper Owens is down at the bottom of the shit pile with Kai Hansen vocal wise imho. Now Blind Guardian and Demons & Wizards, there's a goddamn voice! I'm notorious for being Hansi Kürsch's #1 freak... uh fan :p I wonder if Matt Barlow will pick up and further his musical career. I hope he's not through, that would be a loss.

John Greeley was okay (not marvelous though), except that he was a racist and a thief. Gene Adams, yes. Haha. I don't know what Jon thought he was doing when he let him sing. o_O

Last thing I heard about Matt was he cut off his hair (oh my god T_T) and picked up an administrative job with the police or something.

Yeah, it was about the twin towers indeed.

IE's patriottism is a bit creepy sometimes to me, not having any love for my country or the concept of 'countries' myself. But hey, I guess that's the American Way.
