its hard to put floyd into a genre because they mean different things to different people....we should agree to disagree on this one guys
pink floyd wasn't a prog band. they had a different style, well they weren't tryýng to make progressive or phsycodelic or rock music at that time. they had set themselves free. they were happy to make that music. i don 't want to give a name to their music, because they made and made PÝNK FLOYD music!!!
They did do progressive rock in the 1970's, starting off with "Atom Heart Mother" (1970) and ending with the "Final Cut" (1983). "Animals" (1977) was the most progressive album they made. Progressive rock bands don't sound similar, that would be quite boring. There are different styles of progressive rock.
Then perhaps they began progressive rock with "Meddle" (1971) or "Dark Side Of The Moon" (1973). The song "One Of These Days" definately sounds like progressive rock.
Supertramp's "Even In The Quietest Moments" (1977) is progressive rock in my opinion. I include Pink Floyd and Supertramp as bands who did progressive rock,I don't care what you say, you don't explain yourself.
"One of These Days" is Psychadelic Space Rock which is a style of Progressive Rock. You are the one who is misinformed.
The greatest band that ever lived.:sunglasse I recently saw the Laserlight Spectacular in the newly redone, historic Tennessee Theater. Breathtaking. And I watch the movie about once a month.
I feel ashamed for saying this, but I never got past Dark Side of The Moon. I have been stuck to listening to that and the occasional "The Wall". Do they have any other albums as chill as DSotM?
Pink Floyd is so good. how about they are a quantum band they are everything and nothing. no matter what catagory they are in they are the best. i honastly love everything they did. Pink Floyd is more than music its a way of life
i pretty much owe my life to them actually. its a long stereotypical stupid teen story. but the music made me realize the beauty that is life basically. and pulled me out of a my retarded state of being and really turned my life around
I'm not gonna get into the whole "Was Pink Floyd progressive, or art rock or....." argument, but I definitly don't think One of These Days is either Psychdellic or space rock.
Though progressive rock is kind of a loose term, since most bands in the genre sound completely different, I'm completely sure that Floyd are prog. Pink Floyd's music is very spacy and psychadelic. Their albums often having running themes or concepts, and they've got quite a few epics. They made music that they knew couldn't be put on the radio, and they were heavily experimental. I can't think of a genre to put them under that suits them better than progressive. In conclusion, who gives a shit, its good music.
