Ok hey everybody! Alryte I have a friend who tells me everything and i really don't kno what to tell her about this particular thing so i decided to ask u ladies (and gentlemen if any of u happen to be reading)... well my friend had sex with her boyfriend around october 6 i guess is what she tells me and her period usually starts on the 22-23 of each month and ends almost always 5 days later. Well last month it started on the 20th and lasted til the 22nd. she tells me it was pretty light and now shes wondering if she might be pregnant. she hasn't gotten her period at all this month. she took a first response pregnancy test over the weekend but it said negative... what are the chances that she is pregnant? how effective are those tests and what can make them be wrong? is this maybe something she tricked her body into believing? I dont know what to tell her. any advice or opinions or experiences you want to share could be helpful. Thankz a bunch.

if she is wondering and not sure it is best to go to the doctor or the clinic and take a test. If she is stressing because she thinks she is pregnant that can cause her period to be late. The only sure way to find out is to go to the doctor.

Tell her to go to the doctor. If she doesn't want to take your advise, thats her issue. Giving her less than your best advise is not fair to her.

Is she afraid of going to the doctor because she's afraid of finding out if she's really pregnant?

Well, I dunno. Who's got a better chance of telling her what's going on. A doctor, doing tests, or some random strangers over the Internet?

A woman's body can without a doubt trick her into thinking she's pregnant. Believe me, at times I had every symptom in the book that I was pregnant but still ended up with a visit from the ruby red fairy. ;)

Stress can also play a major factor in the lateness of her period, worrying about the possibility of being pregnant is definitely something that she's concerned about, therefore it can play a role in affecting the cycle, making things go out of whack.

On the other hand, with my first pregnancy, I tested negative the first test I took. Well, another week went by, and still I didn't get a period. So, I purchased another test. That time, there was an extremely faint second line, barely visible. I scheduled an appointment with my doctor to have blood work drawn to be 100% certain, and low-and-behold, I was without a doubt pregnant.

If your friend is still refusing to see a doctor, tell her to take another test. In fact, I'd say to get one of those tests that have an extra test in it just in case. Many of the HPT's offer bonus tests for the price of one. Have her take that, preferrably first thing in the morning and see what the results are. Almost all of the HPT's claim that they can detect the pregnancy hormone (hcg) in the urine at any time of the day, but the morning is when it's the most concentrated. And, if she is indeed pregnant, her body may not be producing high enough levels of the hormone yet to register a positive, therefore, the morning urine catch would be the best bet. If she tests negative again and still doesn't get her period within a week, she should retest.

I hope your friend can find some peace soon!

well, stress CAN/WILL delay your cycle, especially if she's been stressing since last month (over the light cycle she had then). b/c if you experience stress before ovulation, then that will be delayed, which in turn will delay your period
but, really, she should go ahead & find out, so she can begin to deal with what is/is not happening with her body
has she decided to go to the doctor or take another test????

Even if shes not pregnant she should go to the docs. Any change in your period patterns is usually a sign of some kind of problem. She should take a second test, too.
