This is interesting, however I would like to see the proof. This is interesting in one respect though. This is a good study of how a group of animals can learn stuff in a social setting. It is this social learning that has made us as a species so sucessful. A lot of other animals do have the brains to work stuff out, however us humans have evolved to be the most sucessful. Why? Ever since we started walking on two legs we have freed up the use of our hands. This ment we could use this ability to manipulate objects with our hands. This ment we were able to develop tools. The development of tools was done through this social learning. It ment that we could manipulate the enviroment to our own ends. This lead to the development of agriculture. From then on our species exploded. As a result our innovations got better and better. How many animals do you see that have naturally exploded into a population greater than six billion. There are many animals that have taken advantage of this and have a population greater than this. But this is all due to us being in control. Matt
but it goes outside their group. so there's far more to it than that. it practically says that if 100 people learn a new way of using something here in holland, they have picked it up in england too without having contacted the dutch.
I found that theory really interesting, me and a friend actually had a discussion about this a while back, about how things in history and similar inventions and discovery were happening around the world at the same time, i.e. someone discovered something, whilst another scientist around the world was working on the same idea. Unfortunately we will never know the number for certain things, but in my opinion i like the idea of our energy fields affecting others and have always believed that to an extent. So the only way we can use it, is hope that all people are good people and live a peaceful good life and pray that is catches on peace and love michael x

yip i know, but how else to explain the theory, when '100th monkey' is an easy example, the theory itself works though, i've seen it on discovery channel (---yes i watch 'discovery')
i personally dont understand how they worked out that once the hundredth monkey started washing is potatoes, simultaneously, across teh water, all the monkeys were compelled to do the same? even if its not true, if it was true.. what, there was just suddenly a report from the caretakers of monkey habitat across the watyer that their monkeys have started washing their potatoes all of a sudden? and the original dudes were like 'yeah man, our one hundredth one just started doing it'
im not asking how it happens, im asking how they come to the conclusion that the other monkeys all spontaneously had the knowlege. the things give no reports on what the monkeys over teh water are doing
they showed a commercial to people in england, then showed 10 different commercials to people in russia (and asked to pick one they thought was best or something) and the people in russia all picked the commercial that the people in england saw.
How many people in England? How many people in Russia? Did all the russians pick the same commercial or was the special commercial the majority choice of the russians? Is there somewhere that the details of that experiment have been published?
well, thats exactly what i'm trying to find out. discovery channel had a documentary about it, and i'm looking for that documentry now, can't seem to find it.
please find the info, from what youve described the experiment proved that the one they showed the people in england was the best ad of the ones they showed the russians
This reminds me of the old adage of putting 100 monkeys locked in a room with 100 word processsers for 100 years, by pure chance, they would type out the bible. Well, some researcher put 10 monkeys in a room with 10 word processers to see what would hapen, and the monkeys smashed the moniters and pooped on the keyboards.
