Getting weed in the big city

I'm going down to NYC soon, as I do every year, and this year, for the first time, I'm going to need some pot (I started smoking just after last christmas). I figure it's pretty easy to get pot in such a big city, but I wanted to know if anybody here can give me any tips so that I don't end up with schwag shit or getting busted by some cop pretending to be a dealer. I'd want to buy maybe an 8th in the next few days, and then buy a few ounces (200 or 300 dollars worth? I don't know about prices in NYC) sometime in the next couple weeks. So any info on NYC prices and the safest way to buy it in NYC would be appreciated.

 

only rules I can think of
dont tell them you have money till you see the product
dont hand them money if you havnt got the product in your hand
if it helps after they show you the weed, show them you have money so they dont think your trying to rob them
if it seems fishy, dont take the chance
if he talks to somebody who then heads off, stay in a public area since that guy might go get more people
