. whew! , i'm just finishing up a book , 37 pages and 3 to go . i got a little money from a fall farm job , and can just go ahead and have it printed. i plan to do the binding myself . so i came to the library yesterday to find a how-to-make-a-book book . hmm .. they didn't have one . don't you agree that's rather odd ? i've been editing as i go along . i squint so bad looking for mis'spellings . the first chapter is entitled A Guide to the Dictionary of Ultimate Intelligence . well , sure , there it grandly was - i mis'spelled Intelligence . once in missoula, montana i did a coffee shop survey : what is ultimate intelligence ? my fav response was 'listen to the chick-a-dees ." people seemed so very happy in answering that question .
I suggest getting somebody else to go over it too. You can swap critiques fro free at places like critiquecircle.com
. oh , no . this is my book and i am the absolute editor . i take my careful time with it . anyway , i'd be dangerous in an erotic romance writers forum .
I was suggesting Critiquecircle, not my forum. And you don't lose control of it by getting someone to check for those typos that the writer tends to become blind to. The main thing that puts me off self published material is the lack of proofreasing. Of course some people are better as self proofreading but most can't really get all of their own mistakes, at least not without putting the book away for a month or so and looking at it fresh.
That's true, but sometimes it's nice to see the odd mistake every now and again. Like drinking a dirty tequilla in a cheap Mexican whorehouse. Err... not that I would know. shit.
. and now that the book is done ! ... it's been a few days , eh . in editing , typos are not my biggest concern and especially since it's such a little book , and that it is an art-book by an artist . it's as fundamentally poetic as i can imagine a book to be . even it's errors are meaningful , but perhaps only to me - so i give in and make them right . at the end of this process , the 'balance' of the entire book has been my struggle . when i designed the final page , the one with my photo , arrg! the balance i had went tipsy . some pages had to be re-ordered , an illustration reduced and located elsewhere , and then i made my name in the forward credits into a smaller type-font ... if the 'me' of the book got larger one place , then i had to balance it . and it changed the book . editing is important and is not easy . i would not entrust it to a stranger .
Hmm, I do, becuase the stangers are better at it than me My skills are strictly in the writing part of creating a book.
. it's different if yooz writing in a standardized genre . cripey , i'm so very unstandard as to genre tho i do try to make a book a book - as a readable and re-readable book that can be read backwards or forwards just the same . abbqqqqqqlllllllllllllqqqqqqbba
The only rules is that there are no rules. I'm in the process of putting the finishing touches to a new type of ghost story. Nothing like it has ever been written before. It's a proper ghost story. It's actually written for ghosts. Only ghosts can see it. I showed it to all the doctors and nurses here and they thought it was a very good idea. The only problem now is that I put it somewhere and I can't find it.
so , if only you could find that particular apparently blank page ...of ghostly concerns -ain't it All in the remembrance ?
