i've listened to em before, they're kind of weird... they released a new album a couple of weeks ago, i dont think its anywhere near as good as Frances the Mute.

the new The Mars Volta cd is a live album called Scab Dates with mainly songs from their first (and my fav TMV) album "De-loused In The Comatorium" :)

their guitarist Omar Rodriguez also released an extremely weird instrumental solo cd that I've been trying to listen twice...after 20 minutes it starts to annoy me :&

If you want to give it a try you can listen to it at http://3voor12.vpro.nl/3voor12/luisterpaal/luisterpaalalbum.shtml?10617791+24894060

de-loused in the comatorium and frances the mute are both great albums though both very different. i haven't heard much of scab dates but the little i've heard is very good. they are odd but at the same time very talented and entertaining. they are a few ex-members of another pretty good band called at the drive-in. the band split up into two bands the mars volta and sparta. sparta sucks balls but yeah. the mars volta is nice! sorry for the rant/history lesson i'm rather stoned. g-bye.

I've always kind of liked them. I loved At The Drive-In, and their first real album, De-Loused in the Comatorium, was a really great album. I remember when I used to play in this instrumental jam band we would always cover Mars Volta songs. It was great. I didn't like Frances the Mute that much, but the Tremulant EP is definitely great. I love the Mars Volta, especially because they're all skilled musicians. Plus, Flea played on De-Loused.

I saw them at the Coachella Music Festival in 2003. RHCP were headlining, but I was there for the White Stripes. They had a very energetic show. and love the sig pic btw. :)
