if there is already a thread about them out there, my bad
if they don't belong in this category I'm sorry, but I suck at categorizing music, to me it's all just different levels of good and bad

anyways, I think they are extremely underrated, I don't know too much about them but recently I started listening to them, I especially like the songs that the chick sings, I find them to have a real nice style, and though the lyrics are nothing amazing they are definently good

i like them a lot i had their first album and the greatest hits... I search the rest of their albums... And i found them really innocent in their music... something pure and innocent near of other pop artist of that time as Beach Boys of mid 60's and Association... it has soft psychedelic influence too... and their first album in 66 is really as innovative as the beatles... They are really precious.

People always forgot them 'cause they re not as impressive in rock (mmhh but they rock with the song "straigh shooters") than the doors ,the stones, led zep etc... They play another game ...they play a beautiful soft game that any of those band can play...
They were the innocent voices of america beginning to enter the long kaleidoscopic tunnel of altereted experiences ... all my honours for what they give us.

California dreamin' is a pure classic (those harmonies with their voices!) and in their 1st album "Monday, Monday" is a pop jewel too (rich orchestral "a la Spector) , and "Go where you wanna go" is an anthem for the wind of liberty who grows more and more in this year of 1966...and it still actual only for those who want to live it.
In this album "Spanish Harlem" and "Got a Feelin" are beautiful soft song full of romance and innocence... i really enjoy their record ...
I'm excited to discover their 3 other albums (even if the reputation of their 1st album is better)...i search always treasure in music and really ...in The Mamas & the Papas there's a lot of shining little song to discover and remember.

So you know more than me what they've done after the 1st album...
And for a Who Fan naturally it will be difficult to be fan of super slow songs!
(it's the first time is see the frontsleeve of the Magic Bus single and it nearly promess more than the song! ;) )

I like all their music. I just recently finished reading a bio about them, and in it Mick Fleetwood credits them for being one of the first bands to have the female singers not in the background but up front singing lead. He states it paved the way for groups like his to do the same.

ive always loved this band... I think they had such great harmony and sounded so good, its a shame 2 of them have passed on now...

John Phillips was a genious in the songs he wrote, its to bad he had such a drug problem.

another favorite to check out is the song "twelve thirty"
