My hair is about down to my ribs n i was wondering what you guys thought is it long enough for dreads or should i let it grow wild or wait to get longer shoulder length dreads?

Im doing homeschooling and my grandma says hippies used to homeschool lots n i was just wondering why did they? and was/is it better?

    its long enough to dread...

i loved the idea of homeschooling, i'm glad i did it too, it really changed me a lot.... but i much prefer public school after going back to it. you'll definitely learn more being homeschooled, but i dunno, there's only so much forced alone-ness that a person can take. :p

i like long dreads :) if it were me i would wait a little lobger but what ever makes you happy.

homeschooling is a great way to get out of all that shit in public school. it also gives you more time to look into the the things you are into a liitle more. gives you freedom.
i am homeschooled and love it :)

Not sure about the dreads but I agree that the homeschooling is a good alternative to public school even though I only homeschooled briefly as I had dropped out of school for a year to get my head straight as regular school was driving me insane.

how short your hair will get from dreads depends on your hair type. the thicker it is, the less it shrinks.
as a general rule of thumb, expect to lose 1/3 of the length.

hippies homeschooled because the school systems are part of "the establishment". .. I think homeschooling is a great great idea. but theres always the factor of how well you are at making your own social life, instead of just getting the one that comes with being trapped in a building with a bunch a peers 5 days a week.

I also wanna be homeschooled but unfortunatly my parents don't think I've earned the right since I failed 2 of my sciences last term. They think that I only want to quit school in order to rebel and according to them you're only allowed to rebel when you have a B average.

    Dreads:
yes your hair is long enough. A friend of mine says that if your hair is long enough to double back on itself and NOT stick up, then it's worth a go.
Dreads are somewhat permanent in that after a few months of locking (that can take a good while- I mean once they are tight), lopping them off is the best way to get rid of them. Combing out will show all the damage and can be done with great patience and great pain tolerance. and LOTS of conditioner.
You will be judged by your dreads. So if you apply for a job, you will need an in at the company or have a spectacular resume/ CV.
Your behaviour, should you be moody, sulky, over exuberant or any of the other teen age traits, will be blamed on pot and attributed to every other dreadhead.
So, you will have to be a good rep for the culture: that includes rob zombie wannabes, who I KNOW I have nothing in common with.
That's heavy. But do-able, and possible.

Homeschooling: we have a HS forum (farly new)
    http://hipforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=242

some hippies/ back-to-the-landers used HS because school was so far away and taught that Nixon was a nice guy and the war was just.
A commune with enough kids and a couple compenent adults could file in many states as a school.

no one can really stop you from rebelling like a parent can...i think with homechooling your more free to learn how you want to learn n not how soceity n goverment tells you you should its rather freeing i love it
