Find yourself a TRADE friend.... Such as carpentry, or roofing, or something similar. You may be able to live on minimum wage now. But what about when a couple cute babies come along or one of you gets sick or hurt. I understand wanting to be a minimilist, but unfortunately, and I'm not necessarily saying this applies to you, A huge percentage of those living like that end up mooching off of others to survive. Especially if you plan on having kids at some point; It isn't about how you want to live anymore...And you can't foresee what emergencies might come up.

Find SOME way of making a decent living or at least start heading in that direction. It doesn't have to be through going to college. There are plenty of other avenues.

Money is the root of all evil! Take what you get - spend it only on what you need (ie. rent, food and trees). Mostly try to get by on the love you share with your lady, you are lucky to have found a queen who shares your same interest and understands. A lot of women have been bitten by the capitalist bug and would have left you "high" and dry for the guy with the condom minimum. Take long walks and eventually ideas will manifest. One Love brother.

sounds like you have decided you want to be poor. I dont think thats the best decision, friend. I like the pizza delivery idea like some one said, Ive done that and made $20 per hour on good nights... a lot of that goes back into vehicle maintainence and repairs though.... so its a mixed bag.... its also one of the most frustrating crazy jobs ive ever done... but you can live on it...

I know how you feel and my advice is-do what you thing is right.the parents don't know what is the best for you sometimes. My mother always tries to influence with me but she always understands that I'm a person with a personal opinion.I've always had luck with that-I wasn't accepted in the school where she forced me to apply for,I entered in the french high school, where I wanted to study. Now I've made a decision in what university I want to be accepted, and she supported me.It's strange but I think that she understands me a little more.
So, do what you want, and live how you want!I'm sure that a life with a lot of money doesn't mean Happy life. That's why I want to become a french teacher later.I want to have a job that I like, not to study things that I don't want.I wish you luck.

With 2 min. wage jobs it IS possible to live! Have you considered living somewhere other than NY? You could research the lower cost of living in other states. You don't need $ to be happy but you do need a peace of mind. Be kind to others, help out when you can, volunteer some of your precious time and Karma will follow!
PS. You and your girlfriend could also clean office buildings or something together a few nights a week in addition to your day jobs, for extra $.
PSS. If your spirit does not want to stay in school then don't, it won't do you any good. Like local hippy said...it will always be there.

    Food=$250/mo., appartment=$500/mo., minimum wage x 48 hr./ wk. =200 hr./ mo. = $1350/mo. x 40% income tax= $810 / mo. -$250-$500= $110 of extra money.

renting means the rate can go up & you get nothing for your investment. Better to get some land somewhere and put a house, even a trailer, on it.
med labs are everywhere and your sweetie will be able to get a gig.

i've been in college for 5 year jumping from one department to another. from psicology i ended up in arts (fotography). i've never done that well in the university cause i really think it's over rated...
i know i'm way off here but i cant see myself paying to learn something. my other problem is that to graduate from what i'm really interested in i have to take a whole bunch of clases that really dont interest me, so i'm learning what they want me to learn and not what i want to. i cant cope with this, and the clases i dont care about end up lowering my average. i find that un fair.
to make matters worse all my family thinks that your "someone" i you go to college.
i droped out this year because i had to find a full time job and i feel better than ever. i dont have to deal with stuck up profesors, and know it all students. i'm not stessed out with due dates and i dont have to read any more boring books (i love to read but not what they tell me to)
in a way i feel i wasted my time but i learned alot about myself along the way.
i am an artist and i dont believe i need a document that says what i am. (diploma)
money isn't everything, even though i was brought up to think that.
so i'm poor... but i'm happy... i work 5 to 6 days a week and my husband also works but not as much... we share everything and get by one day at a time. we have our little apart, we pay $350 a month, pay some old credit card bills (if you dont have one NEVER GET ONE), have no cable, no phone, but we have our dvd's, our music, 3 children (cats by the way) and our tofu. i find myself happier that when i lived at my parents and "had it all"
so look on the bright side, it's not easy, not every day is a good day, and maybe you'll sacrifice a few things, but keep each other close and happy, be nice to others and good karma will come to you.
wow i said alot... hope it helps ;)
