Unibroue's alright. I lived in Montreal for years, beer drinking is VERY much part of the culture.

Fin du Monde (End of the World), La Maudite (God damned) and Eau Benite (Holy water) are quite good.

If you're curious about the label on La Maudite, I'll tell you the story.

they have a reputation for producing some of the best beers on the continent, though all that i've tried was one of those big ass bottles of la fin du monde. it was a while ago, i'd been drinking an ASSORTMENT of beers that evening (and sake) and eating food, so my perception of the flavor really isn't very accurate. i was already pretty drunk, the flavors werent mixing well to begin with, and i was somewhat new to trying better beers.

my experience with it though...wasn't impressing. i could tell it was well made and had a good flavor to it, but the high alcohol content and the mix of flavors already present on my palate....it just all worked against this. i didn't finish it, iirc, but would be more than anxious to give it another chance someday when i can evaluate it more fairly.

personally though, i'd choose something more accessible like a good decent stout or porter than some super fancy triple fermented corked bottle with a name you can't pronounce....

Try St. Ambroise if you can get it.

Damn, Ry, my influence has really worn off on you.... and I'm not sure that's necessarily a good thing. :p

La Fin du Monde is an all-time favorite of mine. But you already know that since I've said it before.

I'm drinking Duvel tonight; another favorite of mine.

Good beer is well worth the cost!

I drink that, too. I just had some two nights ago. Good stuff! It's one of the best IPA's out there.
