Unsatisfied with rainbow?

its not a rumor,, all the kids that left serf were plannin on bein there,, i think the dates were just after thnks givin... but im not sure..

most of the pholks headin that way were road dogs so i have no way of gettin in touch with them unless they contact me..
i do know thats where little hawk an the TKK kids said they were headed so they should already be there...

 

Little hawk is heading to Mississippi for a gather? Last I heard he
was supposed to be down in Waveland at the Cafe, or New Orleans
with their kitchen.

A bunch of my kids went to mississippi...yes, little hawk is there. All of my kids got the shit kicked out of them. Everyone of them. Just got a call from a friend of mine who is traveling with the L.E.O. Cafe...they went to the mississippi gathering and soon learned they were not welcome. After getting the shit kicked out of them by the kids that were there, they hid in the woods until they passed out. While they were in the woods, the kids smashed up the rv and sabotaged the engine to the point that it won't start...it's worthless. They had to walk out and the 4 kids that made it out have no idea where the otehr 4 or 5 kids that were with them are. This saddens me. she sounded pretty horrified when she was telling me. They beat her old man pretty bad, and then the next day the kids called her phone and were like "thanks for leaving your fancy RV. We've got all sorts of new kitchen gear now..." and a bunch of other shit. She said she hid in the woods with her hands over her dogs mouth for hours while they hit her old man and said shit like "Where's your old lady, hippy? Bring her out here." It's disgusting.

 

somehow i dont doubt that..

but we all know the history of that gathering anyway...

Well, shucks, I guess if folks are getting beaten and their possessions robbed, maybe that's not a scene I want to be a part of.

I thought, at one time, that I could hook up with some contemporaries, you know, old hippie types like me, but seems like that ain't gonna happen. I mean, I got a belly button, and all, but some belly buttons are more equal than others.

I thought, for a while, that I could find like-minded people who were interested in a counter-culture that consisted of more than getting together in a state park and getting fucked up. I mean, these people don't even have the balls to call others on their shit when they're infringing..."It's all good..." "We all have belly buttons..."

Tell the fucking drunks they ain't welcome. Tell the rapists and the violent fucks they need to go somewhere else. MY hippie world doesn't include these simian fucks. I don't give a flying fuck how many belly buttons these shits have... they AIN'T WELCOME in my universe.

It took us a while to figure out that there were some out-and-out BAD people in the scene...the users, the pornographers, the pushers, the molesters, and so on.

Pretending all is sweetness and light just don't work...you're just sentencing innocent young people to a life of pain.

Wake the fuck up. I had someone punch me out in 69 because I was a naive little fuck who was skirting too close to the flame. If not for that, I likely would have ended up a junkie.

I really don't know what else to say, to save some kids from getting really fucked up. If you are going to proselytize, understand that there are consequences for everything you say. If you are going to advocate for everyone having a belly button, let your audience know that not everyone cares about cosmic brotherhood. There are some amazingly nasty people out there, who care not about your cosmology.

The " Missinghippie " Gathering is usually held every January in the DESOTO NATIONAL FOREST. A really "roughing it" gathering before Ocala that ventures on to TALLADEGA NATIONAL FOREST in Alabama after Ocala.

I didnt know people still met out there. Its only about 10 miles from my house, but gone covert for a while.

I thought you all were talking about the Cafe down in Waveland Ms, the kitchen where everyone is volunteering at. Didnt sound like any thing that I see happening down there.

 

From my own little adventure in cultivating rainbows, My experience tells me that we need to be VERY FIRM in the conviction about not tolerating troublemakers. Sorry, everybody with a belly button or not, troublemakers are NOT rainbows, and they mess up everybody elses vibe who has to deal with them. They cause upset and hurt. That is totally opposite of the rainbow philosophy. There just needs to be enough STRONG (physically, mentally, spiritually) folks who can and will put a stop to trouble. The "problem people" need to understand in no uncertain terms that this is not acceptable. Period. Otherwise the struggle just continues on, and people get hurt or worse. Those of us who know this, need to keep banded together and ACT instead of sitting by and "watching the movie" or waiting for someone else to deal with it. Disorganization or what ever else we are, we need to have some established reality here. It has become the assumption that we welcome everybody, no matter what, but this needs to evolve to the assumption that we do not welcome violence, zero tolerance. Hard to do in a group who preaches tolerance. But we need to keep in mind the greater good and trudge ever onward towards that goal even if it means having to say and do some things that don't seem to be very "Rainbow like".

You and I are the same age, so I know exactly where you're coming from. For me, the final straw came at a fall regional in my adopted home state of Vermont in September 2000. It was held in the southern portion of the Green Mountain National Forest, near Bennington. I drove down from my home near Burlington. When I arrived at the main site, I was stunned to find the site virtually overrun with hard-core alcoholics and dope addicts.

As one who's had to deal with the destructive effects of alchoholism and drug addiction on my own family (My mom was an alcoholic and my brother-in-law was a heroin addict; it killed them both), I have zero tolerance for that kind of shit. It's a cancer that's killing the U.S. Rainbow Family, as far as I'm concerned, yet the Family steadfastly refuses to deal with it.

I got so disgusted with what I found at the 2000 Vermont Regional Gathering that I didn't even bother to unpack my gear; I walked back to my car and drove home -- vowing to never attend another Rainbow Gathering anywhere in the U.S. Now I attend only the Rainbow Gatherings in Canada. The hard-core alkies and dopies who are a plague on the U.S. Gatherings -- many of whom have DWI convictions

What ever happened to Gatherings being about Healing? Some folks are all like 'We're only gonna love you as Family if you act like we want you to act' and to us, that is so NOT what Rainbow is about.

we remember a sister who used to attempt suicide at every Gathering & we remember people griping about how Rainbow would be better if she weren't there; but some us chose to love this sister for who she was & ya know what...the sister started to heal from the damage done to her psyche as a child.

we know a lot of people who have healed from drug & alcohol addiction because of Rainbow. we know people who have healed from mental maladies because of Rainbow....and now some of you would chose not to allow these types of folks to heal.

If you want to change things about Rainbow, then do it through Love; not by making Rainbow an exclusive for those who do things 'the right way'. Say one of the A-campers hits you up for donations as you come into the Gathering; smile sweetly, tell the A-camper that you love him/her but you have already donated supplies to the Supply kitchen. If one of the young'ens is fishing for nugs on the trail & that bugs you, then tell the young'en that you love 'em & let them know that you only share your nugs with workers, but do it with Love in your heart.

Rules and Regulations are the way of Babylon; Love should be the way at Rainbow.

 

That's a good idea, because all of us younger generation, we're all violent theives and rapists who don't care about what rainbow means. We just ruin it for the rest of you. I'd highly suggest having a seperate gathering without us. In fact, you ought to just declare a sort of marshall law in rainbow land...but don't forget to cut the tree's down and build houses there first. In fact, fuck it, just gather in central park.


Talk about hurt...what hurts this rainbow mama (young or not) is people labeling and catagorizing. I came to rainbow and found solace in the fact that I AM NOT JUDGED in rainbow. That is why I stayed. My soul sister and best friend would never have kicked her heroin habit if it weren't for rainbow. Turning her away would not have helped her-it would have KILLED HER.

 

I know one OLD one that seems to be the root of lots of trouble.

Him and many other older family members, Heron. It's the attitude of us verses them that causes riffs in our family. If an elder saw me doing something he/she did not deem to be kosher rainbow style, I would hope to get talked to about it, and not kicked out.
