ok, so my comp died a month or two ago and was just recently revived. so i go to listen to some music, and it seems to be going a little too fast, and the voices sound high pitched. i figured it was just windows media player or something, but after using my computer a little longer, i realized that everything sounds too fast and too high pitched. can anyone help me?
Hummm ... I've never encountered a problem like that, so here are a few of my best guesses ... 1) Open the Volume Control (Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Entertainment -> Volume Control), and under the main volume bar, look for Advanced. If it isn't there, you have to enable it by going to Options -> Advanced Controls. Then click on Advanced and make sure that the Digital Output settings is off (if you are using normal speakers; if your speakers are designed for Digital Output, you may want to turn it on). 2) Try checking your manufacturer's software settings. For example, if you have a Creative card, go into the AudioHQ (or whatever program you have that runs the software) and play around with the settings.
I have a component in my version of Media Player 9.x that allows music to be sped up (without a change of pitch) that I wasn't able to find...usually I would attribute it user-error, but maybe your manufacturer's drivers further compressed the file on the same algorithim, causing an increase in speed without an increase in bit-encoding? Buy Creative, it's much simpler...
