Ok Scarlet, you do know who McKenna was, right? If not, here's a quickie info http://deoxy.org/mckenna.htm http://users.lycaeum.org/~sputnik/mckenna/ http://www.alternativeculture.com/spirit/timewave.htm http://terencemckenna.tribe.net/ (this one has links to his spoken works) I hardly think the treatments he accepted made him less counter to the culture.
not very familiar with his works but im familiar with his personality and a decent amount of his messages ive read bits and pieces of, and thought of....im not knocking him, i just didnt understand what you were saying about him. i never knew he had cancer or died from it... but i would wonder, if someone like that, died from an unatural cancer caused from conventional habits like leary probably did???
Hmm... I'm beginning to grow out my nose and ear hair. Will that lead me further down the road to true spiritual/societal enlightenment or does it just mean I am getting old?!
being a hippie has nothing to do with how long one's hair is. the reason hair became so important in the 60's is because it was a sign of rebellion. it started with the beatles when they came to america and were wearing what was considered long hair for dudes at the time. watch the movie "hair" it explains it. hippiedom is what you believe and how you stand up for your convictions. standing up against a manipulative government, speaking your voice, not playing into the "status quo" bullshit. it was so freeing in the early 60's to protest the uptight and suffocating 50's. my generation broke out and said "hell no we won't go", our young men refused to go die in a war that was unjust, just like this war is today in iraq. myself and many young women of that day refused to be held down and be submissive to a male chaulvinist world. it was a glorious time to stand up to our parents, the government and the atrocities that were happening in the world at that time. i became involved with the peace movement, women's rights, human rights, civil rights and found my voice in protesting. the long hair was outrageous on men and i miss seeing it, but it had nothing to do with being a hippie.
Unless you have had cancer and cured yourself with holistic, natural treatments, then just be quiet. I have had seizures for more than 30 years and my daughter has them, too. Some are life threatening. When your child's life is threatened, you are not going to search for some herbs, you're going to accept the synthetic drug that will save her life. Unless you're nuts. The next person that tells me that my epilepsy will go away if I stop eating white flour is going to get their ass kicked. If you're healthy right now, be glad, be thankful for that. But don't rag on people who sought medical treatment that wasn't holistic and natural. You never know what life has in store for you. Not having compassion for sick people is not hip, IMO.
Do they deserve less compassion then? Aren't we all impure? Don't we all breath poluuted air? Don't we all have polluted blood, regardless of our diets? Stop blaming the victims. It's judgemental and shallow.
It seems all I have heard on this thread from Scarlett Rose is negetive and ignorant (not meaning your stupid, just uninformed) #1 Judging other's is very un-hippy like. Ignore what you don't like, don't give into it with a reaction #2 I am a single mom who had genetic ovarian cancer and would have been very selfish to my children if I did not do EVERYTHING in my power ot stay alive for them. (I am a widow, thier father was killed in a car accident) Chemo did nothing to my spirit. I am solid there. #3 I grew up at Freedom Farm till I was 16 and then joined a commune in Mexico. I raised my kids to respect nature and to love ALL people, not to judge but to always offer a kind word and helping hand. This will give you an inner peace. Kindness and love. #4 I also raised my kids in a public school with all the technology they needed and also taught them the ways of the freedom farm so that they could decide for thierselves who they wanted to be. I believe thats what makes me a hippy. You don't have to forgo modern medicines to be a hippy. I love you.
I believe onlyone was refering to how some people conform to others just to get something in return much like people conform to the system to avoid conflict. Anyways peace for all, spread the good vibes brothers and sisters
I avoid conflict by bein rite on with long hair, conflictin with duh pigz shortr hair, who winz? oNLY ONE WINNER.
