Open fan of their music? Don't admit to liking them, but really keep them as a guilty pleasure? Like them but agree/disagree with Bono's political views? Would you like them better if Bono didn't campaign so loudly?

I just read the new issue of Rolling Stone and was curious about how people feel about U2, Bono, his activism, etc.? Some people think rockers should be rockers and that's it, but other people think musicians should take a stand on things. Just wanted to know what people on here thought.

I think they're absolutely brilliant and I'm saddened I got turned on to them so late. I agree wholeheartedly with Bono's views and think it's about damn time musicians have started taking stands for worthwhile things again.

Yep, Bono is doing good work. Nothing against that. But I just can't stand U2's music.

I admire Bono for dedicating so much time to great causes :)

Bono would probably be just as active if he wasn't famous but his popularity gets him everywhere and sure draws alot of attention for debt relief, hunger and Aids in third world countries.

I absolutely LOVE U2 with all my heart and soul and have been a serious fan for over a decade. I finally had the good fortune of seeing them live in concert for the first time last week. We had amazing seats in Miami and were right in the front between Bono and Edge for the Tampa GA show. The show was incredibly moving and spiritual.

We even got to MEET Bono outside the American Airlines Arena as Bono filmed fans on the "Bono cam". "A day in the life of edge" was the topic and fans gushed out praise, etc about The Edge, guitarist of U2. (Me being one of the mad ones, I can't believe our luck. I guess dreams really do come true. That was the best day of my life!)

World peace doesn't seem far away when Bono's around. The concept of ONE makes the whole thing really deep. I think Bono is a wonderful man. He's my idol and someone I admire deeply. He knows they are something else and is the perfect rockstar with a cause. He really has the ability to inspire and provoke and it's beautiful.

I really do hope that by the end of 2008 there will be 5 million Americans signed up for the One Campaign to make poverty history. (Visit www.one.org). That would be more members than the National Rifle Association! YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Back to U2 though, they are without a doubt the world's greatest band. Their earnings and fan base is proof of it. 25 years into their careers they seem to be at their peak and show no signs of slowing down. Already in the rock and roll hall of fame, they are legends in their own time. They're in a league of their own and will truly go down in history. Mark my words.

    LOVE AND PEACE BABY!

im not a huge fan of there stuff really, they did a few ok songs i guess and i dont know anything about what bonos doing for world peace. i think if their views are good (eg wanting world peace) then i guess its a good thing for them to make a stand because they can use their fame for good.

    Feel the same man.
    Bono's activism is so badass.
Just never got into the music that much.
Dont mind it, but haven't gotten into it.

I LOVE U2's music. Yes, there are some songs that I can't stand either. But for the most part, their music ROCKS! I'm more into what they released in the 90s. But the 80s were a good era for them too. Beautiful Day (yes yes yes i thought the title was cheesy before i ever heard the song) is simply amazing too though! and that was released in 2000! i can't say that their latest album is their greatest but the tour was kick ASS! eeeeeeeeeek~!

i dont like Bono implying we should all save africs when he is so rich. People call me evil for saying no one should get more than 200 thousand a year in wages but i think its morally true and if i was bono i sure would give all but that amount ach year!

I don't know for certain but I would think he maybe does do that - maybe a bit over 200 grand. I'll do a search on google see if I can find anything about his personal income and what he does with it - I think he should give a lot of money, but to be fair, what his main aim is, is to everyone giving a little, not a few people giving a lot.

I mean't giving all but 200 thousand quid. So many people find that notion shocking, but think how loved you would be. not to mention unique...

I love that notion woodstock. I've had a similar viewpoint for ages but people call me stupid.

200000 isn't that much and it would be a shame if you earned 100 million but could only have 200000 and then became poor because 200000 doesn't go that far in a lifetime. I assume you mean 200000 a year but what if you earn 200000 one year but not another.

I think there should be a cap of only having 10 million at one point in time.

You should also be limited to the number of cars. 1 per person per household. Look at all the rappers with 20 cars and a basketball court.

I do take offense to live aid events when you see bands telling you to dig deep but then go home to a million dollar house with a swimming pool, tennis courts, 10 cars etc.

As for Bono I appreciate anyone who works hard for other people and between him and Bob Geldof I think they are doing a Sterling job.

As for the music, well it was alright in the 80s but its a bit samey and not very alive.

Well im glad you agree but 10 million at any time blows. My family lives on about 75 thousand a year combined and were fukin happy and I feel guilty. I would always say no more than 200-300 thousand at any time. You can live soo nice on that and achieve all you want to without comdemming your soul (not in a religious sense).

This is where i get really radical in peoples views: CHARITY TAX.

Live 8 was soooo a sales boost. Thats all it really did. And turn into the Pual McCartney show (But i do like him btw).

Teh early stuff is so rugged and passionate, I like the new stuff but its overshadowed by current financial affairs.
