I hate wearing shirts as a general rule and most places I go do not require them but alot of places I go do though and these are the following

    McDonalds
Malls *almost all ive been to, at least im pretty sure*
    Disneyland
    City Bus
    Vans Skate Park

And theres some others but its just really lame because almost every other place does not care and I have a few issues with the above mentioned places requiring shirts

-They do not Post adequate dress codes rules anyplace reasonable you can find them, either on premises or on the internet
-They do not enforce such rules
-They are inconsistant with such rules
-They let women *not at disneyland* wear bikinis but make men wear tank tops or shirts
-They usually have reasons such as saftey or because its a public place

Basically ive emailed and voiced my complaints with their customer service and they have given me really lame reasons why I have to wear one and they say that with the environment in such places that I should not need one but I get hot easily and usually feel like I need to go without a shirt unless the air is like freezing.

Some other places I do not go topfree because I do not know their rules or just feel nervous about doing it and feel I need to suck it in and try it.

Anyways can someone please help me and give me some advice?

Also for those of you who are upset at Wal Mart for not allowing bare feet, the Wal Mart near me has let in topfree men before *ive only seen 2 of them* and im nervous to try to go in there like that but theyve let men do that and would probably let barefeet people go in, ive seen that rarely there and they have no posted dress code rules there. I am not sure about their situation though because I think theyre part of the mall here and im not sure if its dress code applies or not, but I think theyre a seperate business even though theyre listed in the mall, they are not part of the mall physically and people act different in there so i dont know.

Vans Skate park sounds strict. That's a skateboard park, right? Back in the 60s and 70s, it was popular to ride skateboards shirtless and barefoot. I walk bare-chest and barefoot in local and state parks, and I see other guys jogging shirtless. There aren't any rules against it in the parks here.

Back in the 70s some guys would wear these porous netted type shirts. They allow air to flow through, yet you still technically have a shirt on. I don't see those types of shirts much today.

I asked a chick that worked at Vans and she said it was because it was a "public place". Thats stupid though because men go without shirts all the time in public places and ive seen lots of pro-skaters go shirtless at skating events all the time so thats BS. besides I actually saw a person go in shirtless to the skate park there and he didnt come out, im not sure if he put a shirt on or not but i didnt see one with him either so if they toldhim to put one on he couldnt have anyways so I think they let the rules slip just a bit there. Besides when the place first opened I saw a few boys skate shirtless there. I wanna email their main office or company and complain because I just think its stupid. I bet they do it for saftey reasons but I dont really see how much damage you could do without a shirt verses having one one, especially since they allow tank tops and net shirts, as long as you have one on. Girls wear bikini tops in there and noone cares, even to go skating. I dont skate, I just watch the show so I dont see what the big deal is!

That's sounds really strict, especially for a skate park. Do they allow bare feet?

The rules said SHOES and SHIRTS! I assume sandals are accepted.

The rule said that shoes and shirts must be worn at all times while in the skate park and I assume that means the viewing areas AND the store, since it wasnt specific like it is with some other rules, which only require things in the skating area.

    Hey, all...

I know what you mean about the inconsistent enforcement of the "no shirts" policy. Many of the places you have mentioned have let me go shirtless sometimes and then other times ask me to wear a shirt. For example, this last weekend I went barefoot and shirtless to McDonalds, In N Out Burger, Kmart, Long's Drugs, Ralph's grocery store. No problems at any of these places. In fact, I saw one other shirtless guy at McDonalds and two shirtless guys at In No Out! I always like it when I see others who enjoy the shirt free and shoe free lifestyle! :)

On some occasions, I have been kicked out of some Kmarts and McDOnalds for being barefoot and shirtless. What is odd however is that these are often stores that don't have the "sign" posted. A few weekends ago, I went to a McDonalds that had the "no bare feet shirt required" sign on each of its doors. I went in, ordered barefoot and shirtless, they asked me if I wanted it for "here or to go". I ate there without any problem! It felt good to enjoy my Big Mac barefooted and shirtless. Not only that, but the girl working behind the counter asked me to tun around so she could check out my tattoo! Not too shirtless "unfriendly"! :) I just wish more places would let us go barefoot and or shirtless.

Nudistmike, what places have ya been to that are the most shirtless freindly or barefoot friendly? I have found that sit down restaurants are the most "difficult" to go to shirtless, although I have gone to Denny's a few times barefoot and shirtless. I didn't think I would get away with it, but they sat me and let me eat there wearin only my surf shorts. It was cool. I don't know if places like Chili's or Applebee's may be ok for barefoot or shirtless too.

Let's hear from others. What places are shirtless friendly?

That sucks, but at least you can go topless to some places. When was the last time you saw a woman go into a fast food place without a shirt?

I don't see the connection here. If a woman is wearing a bikini top, her breasts are covered. Maybe you should try wearing one, as a protest!

Actually, that was another popular thing in the 70s. Some guys would wear netted shirts that had only the top half and left the tummy bare.

Bikinis for women and shirtless for guys is the accepted norm for minimal dress at most parks and beaches in the U.S. It seems kind of odd that a place would keep men in tops yet let women go in bikinis.

It would be nice to have local friends who also liked to go shirtless. It feels better not to be the only one around shirtless (and barefoot).

The only problem about going barefoot is...what if you step on something? If you cut yourself because of stepping on something, that can create a nasty problem. I'm not saying you would do it, but there are plenty of people who would sue. Companies have to cover their assets.

First, this thread is about wearing shirts in public, not shoes; but whatever.

I've been going barefoot for 36 years and never cut myself to a severe enough degree that it created a "nasty problem."

As for sueing, sueing for what? Most things you might step on would only cause a small cut or puncture the remedy for which is sticking a Band-Aide or plucking the thing out. What are you going to sue for? The cost of the Band-Aide? Emotional suffering? Even if emergency room treatment was warranted, that typicaly comes to a few hundred dollars for the visit. Are you really going to sue for that? Lawyers cost around $250/hour. You're going to spend thousands of dollars in legal fees to recover $250? No lawyer in his right mind would even take your case.

Sit down and take a reality break.

As I mentioned earlier, thank your lawyers for all of these rules we have to follow.

I just said the thing about bikinis because they expose almost as much as a man being shirtless would and any of the problems they complain about would also be there for a woman in a bikini because the bikini doesnt cover anything that would do what they complain about. Its a double standard.

The only places that have really made me wear a shirt of the ones you mentioned were one McDonalds and one InNOut. I do not know weither this is company policy or not, but im afraid to ask because they might say it is and id be afraid to go shirtless in any of these places anymore as a result. I usually dont do it if I feel they might say something to me or if other people are not shirtless there as well. Sometimes ive tried even when both of these were true but since ive had problems lately ive been a bit more afraid to. I go to Kmart and Ralphs all the time shirtless and ive even got in line shirtless and nobody cares, ive only tried it once at KMart but theyve even let me go into the little food area shirtless and nobody said a thing so I assume they dont care. Never been to Longs in a while and i never tried it shirtless, I assume they dont care, Savon doesnt and its similar to Longs. Ive seen several shirtless guys at that McDonalds that complained about me and I find that to be a double standard and ive seen some at InNOut and thats really what encouraged me to try it there. I like it when I see others trying it too. ive never tried going without shoes though, cuz my parents would kill me *not literally* and I just think that might be a going a bit too far and some of these places might not be so nice then.

Ive never been kicked out of Kmart for being shirtless, I have at that one McDonalds and they did not have the sign posted but those people there are dumb because they do not listen to my food orders and usually get them wrong and theyre rude sometimes and talk too much in Spanish and with a Hispanic accent, thats not bad but im not fluent in Spanish and its hard to understand them even with the accent. The woman at the McDonalds, I assume she is the manager because she wears the white shirt and is barking orders, told me to next time put a shirt on hun cuz this is a restaurant *its a fricken fast food joint, its no restaurant!* and she didnt even mention any health codes or any saftey stuff. I think she complained because of some girl scouts or some similar group like that that came in with two women and a bunch of younger girls and I think I heard somebody complaining because until that day nobody seemed to care that I came in like that cuz ive done it several times before and even the manager saw me and nobody cared and they let other people in like that before too, especially little kids. I find that a bit odd and its a bit unfair. I havent tried it in any places with the signs but actually I havent seen many of those signs lately, alot of places used to have em but they took them down. I havent tried at that McDonalds ever since the manager shooed me away. She let me order but told me to bring a shirt next time, I didnt have one the time I went there because I had obviously thought that they didnt care and up to that point they didnt. Its not my fault a bunch of little kiddies came in and none of em seemed to care at all anyways.

Well I beleive that Kmart, Target, InNOut and Wal Mart *ive been to one with shirtless people inside and noone complained, even when they walked past the people at the front* and ive been to a gas station/McDonalds that didnt care, if course I didnt go into the McDonalds part, it was owned by different people and I thought they mightve said soemthing about me. Ive been on several buses that have let mebe shirtless even though its against the rules, kinda funny though. Most theme parks ive been to ive seen shirtless people, except Disneyland, they suck cuz of that and also cuz its so fricken expensive to get in. Ive seen people at the Block shirtless too *thats an open air shopping center/mall* but never seen em go into any stores though and I know the Vans there doesnt allow people to be shirtless so I dont know the policy for the rest of the place. Ive never been to a Denny's shirtless, theres one near me but I never go to it and dont wanna try it shirtless. I havent ever been to Chili's or Applebees before.

I just added this topic because I had a genuine concern about this and I felt since you guys had such great ideas about bare feet I thought you could also supply your wisdom as far as being shirtless because usually the two go hand in hand and you deal with one like you deal with the other. I wish there was a site that deals with being shirtless *for men* like theres one for bare feet because I would really like some good suggestions as to what I can do to improve my shirtless experience. Thanks.
