What do you call a wealthy, educated & successful black man?

I call him wealthy, educated & successfull.

But many in the black community would call him things like a sellout, oreo, Uncle Tom, or even a house ******.

Reality Check. Maybe that's why so many in the black community still find themselves living in inner city squalor, under educated, and poor. Too many feel that ignorance & poverty is the way they are actually supposed to be living, while hailing the Hip-Hop lifestyle that glorifies crime, drugs, prostitution, and bling.

    Keepin it Real, dawg.

And before you inevitably pin the "Racist" tag on me, you should know that what I'm saying also came straight from the mouth of Bill Cosby as well.

  2. the thing is that to be rich and black you have to make some compromises (not dressing "like a gang member") to maintain current popular black culture you have to make a compromise (not being easily employable) there are all sorts of paradoxes that happen because the way people percieve things

schools zone all the minority students to one school so that they don't feel uncomfortable and minority

that school then gets lesser funding because the people who go to it are poor and their parents don't have the connections

contrarlywise you put the minorities in a dispersed manner, they get picked on for being a minority, they look at history, feel justified and decide to become violent (this actually happened a funny way at my high school in a small degree because 10% of the population was white, the rest was mixed bag minorities) so a certain level of tension occured and some white kids became idiot thugs (we're talking like three) this doesn't happen often because there are very few schools like this (well because minorities are minorities) and usually white people are the majority so it was just assumed that these three kids were racist rednecks, which they may have started out as being slightly more racist then the average, but I don't think they could have started out horribly racist....

it's all pressures and perceptions, ebb and flow, as though society were a series of thousands of little transistors.....

Well, all that says is that there is something seriously wrong with "popular black culture." Why should it be a sell out to be successful? Even if you aren't "rich" but just middle class. Do black people want to be poor? It doesn't make sense, they should be trying to emulate those successful black men and women, so they can get out of the slums.

(please don't call me racist for my comments. we're just having a discussion. I also realize not all blacks live in slums, nor are they the only race that does).

I went to a school for a year where whites were the minority....yeah at that school it was pretty funny.......every black person tehre thought they were a "gangsta" so they dressed like it, talked like it, acted like it, but bought all there shit from ME lol......haha ok naw...nto all of them thought they were gansgsters.. it was like a white majority school only the people were jsut a differetn color..half were middle class half were poor....its sad because the ones who thought they were gangsters werent at all and didnt try in school cause of this image thing........HOWEVER.....My quarterback who was black he had 4 kids wroked at dair queen was a thug sold pot on the side.....and then graduated and got a football scholarship and now is in college with like 5 kids - you have to respect him for that.....the key is in balancing that pop culture and reality...........What is really sad is that a lot of people who are nto black who say things like this always apologize....ya know i dont want to be called racist either, but fuck that.....slavery was over a long time before i was around so i have nothing to apologize for....Peace.

  10. Hey y'all have to read "Black like me" by John Howard Griffin. Its a true story bout a white guy that made himself physically black and travelled round the deep south living as a poor black man keeping a journal. Its from the 60s but it still hits some of the problems about black and white attitudes right on the nose. Have a good day everyone

They recently showed the Oprah episode over here, where she had some journalist guy and Maria Shriver interviewing black Americans after Hurricane Katrina who were now homeless etc. Oprah asked the question, that if the Hurricane had've happened in LA or an affluent areas with celebrities involved, would the rescue response had've happened a lot sooner. Basically, was the response so slow because the people were black. This journalist, quite obviously, said "i don't know" and did not answer the question. I realise his job but what a load of crap. Even Oprah, who constantly refers to her African American roots did not have the guts to admit the truth. I realise i am not a part of your country but god that pissed me off. Of course it was a race thing. Am i wrong? Would white, rich people have been left to their own devices while flood waters rose, people were being raped and attacked and dead bodies were lying on roofs of cars and houses? Of course not. These people have lawyers and influence and money. It's pathetic but more so, hearing people and mainly white people, say they were surprised by this. All you have to do is look at the American history and it's clear that Blacks and Whites and treated differetly and still are. I guess it's the easier option to bury your head though, especially when you live in a fancy highrise apartment or have seen an Oscar party or two.

    Am i wrong?

it has to do with income level more than race.

The poor were the ones who were killed. Blacks are poorer % wise

Rescuers were trying to get into new orleans to help...but they were getting attacked by gangs.

The real problem? The state and local authorities diverted money from keeping the levees up to date to pay for other shit. That wasnt done to kill the black man or any shit like that...

The race issue was WAYYYYYYYYY overplayed in katrina.

first of all, have you been to any black community at all, don't just come out and be telling me "many black people will say this" just because you read it in some MalcolmX book.
If you don't know something don't say.

why don't you leave your papa's crib for once and go live there in the slums with the blacks maybe then you'll know nobody wants to be poor!.
Just because you live in the comfort of your parents and what not doesn't mean you can say sh!t about the poor people and blame them for their status.

you make me laugh. just because you don't like hip-hop don't mean you have to run your mouth against it.
don't piss me off for real because ama show you my black ass!!

first of all, I pin the racist tag on both you AND Bill Cosby. lick it good and make it shine!

second of all, you wouldn't be making this post you did if you were black!!.

. you didn't need to repeat yourself or state it directly. a blind bat could sniff it.

    Quick questions for you:

so you think whites are superior to blacks . . .. true or false?
you say you're an employer, are your employees all white? do you have any black employee?
Do you live in the south of the US?

I actually saw no difference between you and the other person (whoever it was), as you can see, i'm new here.
And if you're trying to apply that your generalization and stereotype of "blacks" to me, i'm sorry, actually i'm not sorry! it's not going to work.

See, i've heard lots about the south and racism that's why!!
I live in the north obviously. you dig?
