i've been on BC pills for a month today. (desogen) i've posted questions about it before, and have gotten some great advice on these forums. so now i'm seeking some founded information, cause the website for my pill is rediculously lacking. am i protected? we had a bit of an 'accident' today with a condom, and i don't know what to make of it. it's been a month... how long does it take for the pills to take effect? i've heard anything from 2weeks to 2 months. my doctor kind of glossed over that cause i wasn't expecting to use them as Birth control when i got the prescription. i guess if i dont get an ansewr here i can call in to a reference nurse or something... i'm just lookin' for a little peace of mind. thanks
I believe (and don't take this as absolute truth, because I could be mistaken) that if you started the pills on the first Sunday after your period started, then you are protected pretty much immediately. Until you can get some more reliable info, though, I would suggest trying not to stress about it. The more worked up you get, the more likely you'll convince your mind and body to act like it is pregnant.
As long as you have been taking your pill correctly, same time every day, you should be protected. You've been on for a month? You're fine, don't sweat it!
thanks so much! i've been really positive about it, i understand what you mean about the negativity and worry creating symptoms. i think it's okay, and i won't worry. i'm getting in touch with my OBGYN tomorrow. it's good to know, once again, people will respond and lend a hand.
this is just what i read (not gospel either). If you start taking it on the first day of your period then you are covered from Day 1, in any other case it is effective after 7 days. That was just my experience tho! The important one to remember is that stomach upsets (vomiting/runs) and also antibiotics can make the pill less effective. i know the paranoia well - I used to have it too.
