Heres some pics of the first day and a few of the 25 plus chicks we dressed, a good time overall......http://www.hipgallery.com/photopost2/showgallery.php/cat/500/ppuser/3193
My great grandmother used to sling chickens around like that. It's insane. But it was so cute to see a little 80 year old woman slinging the hell out of a chicken. Then, it could be one of the reasons I don't eat meat now... They barbequed my pet goat, too. His name was Jed. Then they fed him to me without telling me what it was.
It was terrible. He lived at my grandparent's house in Louisiana and I was in TN. I went home to visit for the 4th of July and we went to the neighbor's house for lunch. We were all sitting around eating our BBQ, and then the neighbor said to my grandfather, "Gee, Russell. I'm sure glad you had that old goat just hanging around. It's so hard to find something to feed this many people at the last minute." I almost threw up. And I never ate meat again. Well, except for when I was pregnant and one time when I just really wanted this cheeseburger.
If you have ever lived on a farm this is the way of life. Chickens, turkeys, pigs, cows, rabbits, deer,..etc. Its all just meat for the freezer. I have many stories that would hurt peoples feelings, so I will keep them to myself.
a great thing about these pictures is their truthfulness. it'll provide a jolt to those meat eaters who never really think about where their meat comes from and what happens to the animal before it's prepared and packaged. the ones who can respect it and stomach the concept, well, they'll continue on. the ones who never really thought about it will come to a deeper conclusion about what they're putting in their mouths and what that means.
submariner, do you have one of those power pluckers that looks like it's made of whirling dildos? Those things rule.
Owning slaves use to be a way of life on many farms also. That doesn't make it right. peace barefootnikki ps... atleast these chickens got to live on a farm and not cooped up with a million others.
