I was just thinking about this today --> Soldiers fought for our freedom, to give us the privelage to learn, be who we want to be, look the way we want to, follow any religion, etc. They gave their lives so WE could live. And out of the entire year, we give them two minutes of silence. Is that really enough?
To my brothers and sisters, There are many reasons why wars are fought but the number one reason is stupidity. If you really think about it, just look at the historical war record and try to find one plausible or valid reason why any war was fought. Either someone assassinated someone (World War 1), or someone thought he could rule the world (World War II), or someone invaded another country due to greed (Korean and Desert Storm 1), or to prevent the spread of a perceived threat (communism in Vietnam). Man in his infinite stupidity cannot seem to find a way to live peacefully without trying to murder one another. And the end result is that we have all of these good folks who go off to the hell that is called war. You ask if two minutes of silence is enough and the answer is a resounding "NO". On Veterans Day, it would be a good idea just to say thank you. Find a veteran shake their hand and say thanks for your sacrifice and may God bless you. You'll be amazed at how those simple words mean the world to a veteran. I should know, for I served in Vietnam and our return was not welcomed by the majority of Americans. It still hurts that so many of my comrades did not return and died so far away in a foreign land. Some were never found and remain MIA. But that's another story for another discussion. For now, just a simple "thank you" will do. Peace, ALI
