Harriet is very special. You see in 1830, this guy named Charles Darwin was on the Second voyage of discovery aboard HMS Beagle. The data he collected he used to write Origin of The Species where he was the first to present the idea of evolution. He returned in 1836 and gave Princess Victoria, who would become Queen Victoria a year later, a gift. A giant galapagos Turtle. The turtle was given the name Harriet. She spent time in the Royal Zoo but England was a bit too damp for her so 17 years ago she was sent to the Australia Zoo. Anyway yesterday was Harriets 175th birthday. You notice I didn't say would have been. That's because she's still alive! She was given a hibiscus flower birthday cake which she enjoyed. 175 years old! The oldest known living animal in the world. How cool is that? Happy birthday Harriet. Hope you manage 175 more.
