Is Jesus a Nazi because he said that people must follow him? Doubt it. John 14:6 says "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." This isnt a demand to follow. This is a statement of fact that comes out of compassion. Jesus wanted everyone to know the truth and to spend eternity with Him. And as for the atrocities that have been committed in the name of Christ.....they are truly horrible and cannot be excused. However, nowhere in the Bible does Jesus advocate for violence and nowhere in the Biblical descriptions of the church does it advocate for violence. Acts shows what the early church looked like and it was based on a community of love and reaching out to others. Since then there have been some who have perverted what was said in the Bible and used the name of christianity to accomplish their own goals. This cannot be chalked up to the failure of the Church.
