Vaughan, the man in the cowboy hat. The reason I picked up and learned guitar. No guitarist has had such inspiration into my tone/ playing as he did. Can you imagine what he would be doing right now had he not been tragically taken? Playing live shows and recording more albums? Heres to SRV.

Oh and who else agrees that John Mayer should stop playing pop and turn to the blues which he is obviously so gifted in. Johns version of Lenny is so good. I would love for him to do a tribute album to Stevie.

I saw SRV before his death, and he was hands down THE most amazing guitarist I had ever seen. Having heard his recordings beforehand didnt even prepare me for the live experience, and having seen him be more incredible live makes his death that much more tragic.

that said, if you are an SRV fan, you should check out bluesman Albert King. Both stevie and hendrix copied his sound, and even his songs such as "let the good times roll".

O Stevie Ray. Wow, probably my favorite guitar player ever. I just love the guy. And everything he did.

The tone, the touch, the vibrato, the passion. God bless the man.

He had it all for what he wanted to do. And he did it just as good as any other. One of the best blues guitarist to have ever lived.

And to the guy above me. Your right about the Albert King thing. They were both heavily influenced by my favorite King.

Which is nice to hear someone mention it. Since some seem to think that Stevie was just a Hendrix clone. And those people have no clue what there talking about. They both happen to have basically the same influences. Tho Stevie was obviously influenced by Jimi. Which you can hear more of in his first 2 records. Than on the last 2.

He was more influenced by Jimis clothes than anything else. LOL

The thing about Stevie's passing that is so tragically sad is that he was clawing his way out of addiction, hence the name of his last album, In Step. I saw an Austin City Limits clip of him from mid-1980s and you could tell he was gone - never played a wrong note, but he was gone. Saw anothe ACL clip of his last performance, and man! what a change. His eyes were focused, in the moment. He sang Leave My Little Girl Alone and it made you back up, it was so intense. And just when he's getting it all together, a retaining bolt works its way loose on a helicopter.

I sure hope there's a Rock n Roll heaven and I'm considered worthy.

There aren't enough compliments I could pay to Stevie... What an amazingly proficient blues guitarist.

He can put so much soul into his playing. There's not any single element of it that makes it distinct or so good. It's just so amazing. His blues flows right out of him and into you. It's that beautiful how he plays...That albert king and SRV album looks incredible. I'll check it out.

Jimi Hendrix idolized blues guitarist/singer Buddy Guy. He was even seen in some footage at one of Buddy's concerts. Hendrix supposedly got up and played with him. I'm not 100% sure on that though.
