I'm just nosey is all So to the hippie mamas who've already birthed their babe(s): where'd you do it? Did you have any meds? To the mamas who are pregnant now: Where will your babe(s) be born? And meds in the plan?
bed rest for five months followed by a breech position all led to a cesaerean.... thus my enjoyment and interest in others natural birth stories....wish I could have been there too! oh well....if ever given the chance I would have home births like my friend who had all four kids at home and my mum helped deliver them....they are lucky children to have been bought into such loving family environments!
planning currently for a home birth, completely free of any medical intervention...I'm hopeful, and my family is skeptical...we'll see who's right
Holly, you can do it. I know you can! I had both my childern in the hospital because I really had no where else or any other idea of where to go. We don't have any midwives around here really. I am getting on an insurance plan right now that will allow me to travel an hour to a birthing place. We'll see if that works but I go VERY quickly. I plan on giving birth naturally as my first two I did naturally with no medication. I'm stubborn and HATE needles. I don't know I might even have to have a c-section but I won't know until last trimester (I'll be going on medication and if it doesn't work I think they are going to c-section the baby out if I go in labor). Long story, really don't feel like going into why but I don't know how that will hinder my chance of seeing a midwife is.
My son was born in the hospital naturally. I am planning on the next birth being in a birthing center which is very similar to a home birth.
I planned a homebirth and saw midwives my whole pregnancy. Went into labor, labored for two days and ended up having to go to the hospital. Because they had to give me pitocin they also prescribed an epidural. I rested and then popped out my baby! My midwife says that since I popped him out so easily once it was time, next time I should be able to birth at home just fine. I think I'm ready to write my birth story. Keep an eye out the next few days for it.
I had two planned hospital births with planned epidurals. Everything went very smoothly. This time we are doing a home-water-birth with obviously no interventions. I'm a bit scared of the pain since I had epi's the last two times but I think the enviornment will more then make up for it
Had both of mine totally natural with no meds or anything, did all my prenatal care and delivery with midwives. Both times my actual hard labor lasted less than 30 minutes and the whole thing was less than 7 hours of labor. Just lucky I guess.
I had one natural in hospital and one emergency c-section after planning a home birth. I HOPE if I ever have another I can have a vbac at home. I should be able as long as I don't have to be induced.
Had a perfect pregnacy, was wanting to have a home birth, but wasn't a very good enviornment, then it got kind of to late and we decided to use the hospital and have absolutely no med students in the birthing room with us. But as you all may know that all got ruined by some bitch who had very bad road rage, and we have a emergancy c-section because of a ruptured uterus. And for now on if we are able to have any more kids, they will all be in the hospital of course and will have to be continus c-sections. I wish I could experience the real birthing method, "natual birth."
hospital birth... with epidural. I'm too big of a baby to tolerate pain. Everything went smooth.. except for a few minutes where trey's hb dropped really low.
Home births, my second was a water birth - highly recommended! My first was really hard - I pushed for 6 hours and had horrible tearing. My mind and body were not ready to be a mama! But funny how in just a second when they appear all is well and life begins.... My second child was a beautiful birth (although there was screaming and pain) I really felt in control and able to put my experiences and knowledge to work for me. I LOVED feeling my sons head move down the birth canal and through my body - when he was a newborn I was always rub his head and can feel that same strong life force that I felt during labor!
Yay! My trip to the midwife yesterday showed that one of the tests they did for me about gestational diabetes (the only factor that might have made them deny me a homebirth) shows that not only is my blood sugar levels perfectly normal but I'm not even insulin resistant (I'm insulin resistant natural, thus why I'm overweight)...They want to do another test to be *absolutely positive* but I told them I would NOT do the glucose tolerance test. I'll monitor my blood sugar at home for a few days. They agreed. I have such great care! So still gearing up for my homebirth....*positive thoughts*
that's awesome hippyfreek! All three of mine were born in a hospital (there are no birthing centers OR midwives where i live). The first two in a big hospital, and the third in a much smaller one. The smaller one was definately better, as far as getting to actually room-in, and be informed of what they were doing to my baby when. At the bigger hospital, they were really good at telling me later what they had already done, so that i never had an opportunity to refuse anything. #1 i thought i would have all natural, but being my first i guess, i had a really hard time pushing him out. My doc talked me into an epidural at 9 cm, which really didn't help with the pain, but i suppose may have relaxed my muscles *just enough* to help the doc yank him out. #2 i got an epidural right away (at 4 cm) because i had so much fear left over from #1. It went very well despite my evil doc, babygirl came out with one good push, and my hair still looked nice for the pictures, haha! #3 i was determined to have a pleasant, natural birth, but i had a (different) doc who was determined to make me miserable. i did get through it without pain meds (i did need pitocin), but this birth was even more intense than my first, and i plan for it to be my last!
#1 1969 Hospital with lots of drugs, gas during delivery. Small town Would never do it again this way not matter what. Horrible experience. Extremely jaundiced baby. Bottle Fed #2 1972 Hospital birth. No drugs Long labor but no problems. 2 stitches. Same Hospital. Mildly jaundiced baby. Breastfed for 8 months #3 1973 Hospital birth. Much smaller hospital. Baby stayed in room with me. Left hospital in 23 hours. No drugs. Long labor but manageable. Got jaundiced two days later, but never took him to the doctor. Breastfed one year. #4 1978 Same hospital as the first two. No drugs. Long labor. Mildly jaundiced baby. No stitches. 9 pounder. Breastfed 3 months. #5 1980 Same hospital as the others. No drugs. Long labor. No stitches. No problems. Breastfed 3 months. #6 2002 Two and a half year long "pregnancy". No drugs. Needed lots of them. 4 hour labor (plane trip to Guatemala.) Baby was delivered into our arms two hours after arrival in the lobby of the Camino Real Hotel in Guatemala City. 18 pounds, 5 1/2 months old. Bottle fed. Kathi
i love how you wrote #6--that one was certainly a more stressful pregnancy, labor, and birth than i could even imagine!
Thanks Ryvre....You were actually my inspiration to deny the glucose tolerence test. You showed me just how ridiculous it was! On other news about Ms. baby, she's either extremely private or extremely shy, because when they used the doppler to hear her heart, she keep backing away from it! We'd hear a second or two, and then she'd dodge them. Plus the heartbeat is above 140 bpm, so I'm saying it's a girl.
