has anyone heard of swaddling a baby to stop it from crying? I was wondering if anyone had read or knew of anyone using swaddling for older babies, say 5-6 months. I have read about swaddling newborns for up to one month, or beginning swaddling as a newborn for a number of months, but what about beginning swaddling at age 5 months? Anyone? Thanks

Not after a month, it'll only annoy him and it interferes with development.

you'll have to go through the bag of tricks, walking, singing, babywearing, etc.

    Sorry

I don't think a five month old will let you swaddle him. However, some babies do calm down when they are mildly restrained. At your baby's age, a carrier sling will do the job perfectly. It keeps the baby from flailing, and close to your body also. Crying babies NEED to be on your body when they are crying and upset, as well as most of the time when they are happy. Too much time in the "car seat" or swing or crib will make babies cranky. Holding is what your baby needs now.

Another vote for baby-wearing. If you don't have a baby sling there are websites that will tell you how to make your own. Just google it,I can't think of the address right now. It's cheap and easy to make a pouch style sling. Being close to mama (or dada or whoever is loving and caring for them) is what small babies crave and need most. The security of loving contact during infancy stays with them all their lives.
