Hi, I'm planning my first trip to Middle Earth sometime next year (I'm an LOTR geek), probably May. I'll only have time and money to visit one island and obviously, I have some questions.

-Since I love alien-looking volcanic shit, would Rotorua be the best place for me? (Sulfur doesn't bother me in the slightest.)

-Do the airport customs have drug-sniffing dogs? I'd like to bring a little bit of weed.

-What's the weather like in May?

-Are there any LOTR tours in that area?

-Is there enough public transportation on the N. Island to get around to the major sites without a rental car?

-Is the train ride from Auckland to Wellington worth taking? I love scenic train rides.

-Are the weed prices in NZ the same as the Cook Islands (NZ$50/gram)?

-Is Huka Falls the best waterfall in the Rotorua area?

    Thanks in advance.

i can't answer them all but:

    http://www.rotoruanz.com/home.asp

Rotorua is the best place for geothermal activity as most their tourist attractions are based on it.

Yes, drug-dogs at airports, probably could find weed easily, prices vary.

May: late Autumn/Fall. Rotorua would be a little windy i'm guessing, but not as rainy. Not that cold either.. but I don't know that temperatures you're used to.

LOTR .. not sure if there's any of that in Rotorua sorry

Haven't been on the train between Auckland and Wellington, but there's definately rad scenery between the two places - i'm just not sure which route the train takes.. someone else might know.

Public transport is wicked within cities, and generally between sites.. but not sure how far you're planning to travel?

Sorry that wasn't the best help..

yeah I'm not much help either - but I think the north island sounds more up your alley - Rotorua and so on.

there's also the area around the Tongariro National Park, off the desert road, where a lot of the film was shot.

and pot from the north island genreally kicks the south's ass.

Pot costs about $20-25 a tinny which generally about a gram. If you get it further up north then it will probably be better (ie north of taupo) but its still easy enough to find it towards the south end of the island.

Don't bring it into the country, they'll probably find it on you. Weed really isn't expensive here and so its not worth it. Just buy some here. Make sure you know what you're talking about though so that you don't end up with a tinny full of cabbage.

hahaha... hark at me... I've become such a pothead since dating boyd. :p

The train from wellington to Auckland is 11 hours long. This is a LONG train trip. it's also totally worth doing cos it goes through some amazingly beautiful areas. If you're lucky, you'll also get some commentary as you're travelling, telling you what is what.

may is starting to get colder and rainier. There really won't be so much sun. If I were you I'd try to come between October and February/march when there''s still sun.

the best weed i've found comes from Marlborough.. mind you I'm a newb, and haven't come across anything north of palmy.. except napier.. that stuff wasn't bad.

A tinny of cabbage, that's funny. How lashed can you get.

Cabbage can be fun - if slight light-headedness and the occasional sneeze are your thing. A catholic girl attacked my friend for suggesting I smoke some cabbage with him earlier this year. She scared me. Today was fun, wasn't it?

cabbage is only good for making butter.

Clearly some of the tinny is going to be cabbage to flesh it out but there should be a good few buds in there as well.

You're getting ripped if you're paying $50 a gram in the cook islands. Its about $300 an ounce here which is a shit load of weed.

I would very much agree with that. I would go one further though, and say that the further north you go the better. Kaitaia has a lot of 'uninhabited' forest space if you know what I mean.....mind you (although I dont smoke much at all) Ive heard good things about the weed here in Auckland, depending who your dealer is(been given some from a local dealer through an aunty and that stuff is soooooo strong)
