OKay, I've looked into buddhism a little and there are only two things I can't bring myself to overcome: 1) the fifth precept. this may not be much of a problem, because I've been told it's not always observed. 2) the idea of rebirth. maybe it's just because i've been raised as a presbatyrian for most of my life, but I'm just so skeptical. I have a great respect for buddhism. It's just these two things I can't get over. Any thoughts?
JavaJade, I was also raised Presbyterian, but I've met two people who I'm convinced I've known in a former life. Reincarnation is not something you can bring yourself to accept through your head so much as through your heart.
As for reincarnation it could be relative, or even irrelavent. Relative to births sand deaths of conciousness. Irrelavant in the fact that way always exist. In that its all the same, the birth process came with the beggining of earth. All elemets just change form more than dissapear. So we never really die.
The fifth precept, dont desire food, herbs, and wine. but dont fear celebration through food, herbs, and wine with your brothers and sisiters.
Reincarnation makes sense To me Wondering about it gives great results in understanding how life goes Think also to the karma wheel and understand there is an order (that is reinsuring, i mean for your mind to be calm) There is nothing to be skeptical at all Are you waiting for somebody "giving" you "the truth"? What you need is to know that some people know this is Be calm
yes be peaceful my child. now sit undisturbed for many hours, thinking nothing. you shall achieve the greatest state of bliss! ...that should shut him up
