    i have to do a report for class on a subculture.. and since my teacher wont let me try and claim people with dreads are a subculture (haha).. I was thinking of doing the Rainbow family. The only problem is I can only study people in Idaho, more specifically the Boise area. And I was just wondering if anyone is part of the Rainbows here? .. or if anyone knows someone who is and can tell me how to contact them, that would be great too.
    Thanks. =)

    Seems as though all of a sudden we're in everybody's High School cirriculum...Is it a good thing that we're right up there now with Romeo & Juliet and The Old Man and the Sea?

    Anyhoo, I saw this thread in the L.O.V.E. Family Forum (Whoever they are...I think they're PA Family) http://www.hipforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=119269 "New Dead Bar Opens in Boise", so dust off your fake ID, and go do some field work. I guess you've researched press reports on the 2001 Annual in ID?

    haha.. actually I'm in college, not high school. My high school was too uptight, I doubt Rainbows would be an "acceptable" topic, without sending me to see a drug counselor or something.

    Anyway, thanks for the link. I actually know of that bar. I'm applying to work there. But I didnt think about going there to talk to them. Good idea.

    And yes, I've looked at the newspaper reports. Unfortunately this essay has to rely on observation instead of book/newspaper research.

    But thanks!

    Hello Mary!
    I'm a longtime Rainbowgoer living in Boise and eager to get to know other folks and family around here.
    The Rainbow Gatherings seem to me to be a sort of secret circulatory system of the hippie movement. Most people outside the Rainbow have no idea what goes on at Gatherings, and little interest, but many of the cultural features they take for granted have been supported and furthered by the Rainbows.

    I think that you should do your report on the bicycling subculture.
    you could even do a part about einstein exploring his theory of relativaty on his bicycle.

    here in the midwest there is an entire sub-culture of bicyclists who go downtown and have nude races lol.

    I couldnt be so mellow. If I dwelled & schooled in Idaho, I'd have to become very un-politcal - un-correct and do my paper on Mormon's. Thats ONLY if I couldnt find Mormon's with Dreads.......

    Hey sister, I am from Idaho and currently living in Bend, Oregon. Although I have a sister who lives in Boise, maybe you could contact her, she has been to the 2003 Utah gathering and 2004 in California. Going to our first gathering in Utah changed our life paths forever! I will let her know you need someone close to talk to. Hope its not to late for your report
