    Hey everyone,

The local TV-station from Amsterdam is making a documentary about British tourists. We're looking for people who (regularly) come to Amsterdam to enjoy the freedom of smoking grass and hash. People who are fed up with the drug limitations in their own country. We would like to follow you and your companions from the beginning till end of your trip. If you're interested please contact us.

    Kind regards,

    Bart Vos

When in Baba last week, I saw a British tourist's eye's roll to the back of his head before he passed out. When he came to, he went into convulsions and spewed all over his friends. One of them looked at me and said in a very British accent, "He's not from here". Poor guy.... Take it easy on the weit you light weights, lol...

Well it's not my intention to paint a bad picture of the Brits that come here. If you know your limits there's nothing to fear for.

There are many Amsterdam bound British travelers at channels.nl. And if you want a Yank, I will be back in April, lol.. But I love the culture and people and the coffeeshops are only a small part of my visit's there. I am trying to learn the language and hope to go and stay for awhile in the near future. It's a one of kind place your country. I think 30 years ahead of the rest of the world and hopefully a model to follow if some of the underlying unrest eases soon.

it used to be a progressive place (for a few years). what is happening now is really just a reversion back to the old dutch ways. the 'tolerance' was just a little temporary side step brought about by a minority of the dutch community. the dutch are now fighting back and they want to live in the type of country that the majority have always wanted. i hate to break it to you, but the majority do not want the tolerant utopia. get out and speak to some real dutch people (not just left wing dutch). most of them want rita verdonk, they deeply distrust anything that isn't dutch and they want to regulate every little aspect of life. the little dutch 'social experiment' is over and won't be coming back anytime soon.

JSM, we are at opposite ends of the spectrum. You just couldn't be more wrong. Have you read, "The Netherlands in Perspective" by William Shetter? (isbn # 90 5517 2030) That one little book will dispute your statements completely. I am not a drug tourist and I know many many Dutchies from both small villages and from the cities. They are all very proud of their country and it's policies. Quit dwelling on the negatives and try to make an effort to effect things positively. If enough people preach doom and gloom, those same people will get doom and gloom. That is not the Dutch way.

living in the netherlands gives one a better perspective than any book ever will. i hold dutch citizenship, i have dutch family, i've lived in holland on and off for several years and you tell me to go and read a book?

thank you fedor. while i don't agree with your positon most of the time, i do applaud your honesty. more honesty is what is needed. denying the reality of public opinion is the biggest threat to the netherlands. the current situation has been brought about because a small minority proportion of the dutch society has been determining the course of the whole country for the last 30 years (until Pim's emergence that is), while the majority are tired of being preached to about tolerance. i don't agree with the right wing approach, but better that than a false left wing agenda which is unrepresentative of the majority.

<< "shaking head" >> Yes exactly, my evidence is personal experience as well, I only back it up with the written word. As I will not take your word and you will not take mine. Let's just disagree about this but continue to hold doors open for women, ok?
