Indeed because it is, prima facie, an irrefutable logical truth. What exactly are you saying? That meanings of words are included in dictionaries even if they are not recognised usages of that word? That's an arsemunchingly imbecilic argument...

Firstly it's shaky ground to assume anything is an irrefutable logical truth. You've used three massive terms there, all of which would be difficult to substantiate alone, let alone combined. Secondly, you've misinterpreted my argument. I've accepted that the meanings included in the dictionary are recognised uses of the word. My point is that the dictionary is not authoritative. These are disputed terms. As this debate has shown, not everyone sees race as meaning the same thing. Dictionaries are written by people, and people cannot be divorced from opinion and ideology. My argument is that a more in depth analysis than the dictionary can or would attempt to provide, would split their definition of race up into further categories. I personally, do not see race as meaning anything other than biological features. This is a 'commonly accepted' definition of the term amongst scientists, sociologists and anthropologists. A simple dictionary definition, I would say, is misleading in this instance.

Also, I would suggest you stick to the debate itself, and keep this friendly. Suggesting what I have said is 'utterly irrelevant' or 'arsemunchingly imbecilic' is not only offensive, but poor debating technique. Attacking the person does not attack the ideas. Let's keep this civil please.

Quite. And the multifarious different meanings of the term, identified by their inclusion in the dictionary - a list of accepted word usages - clearly proves that despite whatever limited way you may wish to use the term yourself, it nonetheless sustains other, perfectly correct, meanings. I still really don't understand what you're trying to get at?

Good lord, has the whole world had a sense of humour bypass this week? C*nt:p
