hey all.. i just finished ripping some bongs and i was thinking,,,,

i know that smoking weed activates the cannibinoid receptors in the brain (hence my name cannabinoid agonist) and this is what makes gives you a different feeling than normal cos of the increased amount of cannabinoids flowing between neurons.. but there were already cannabinoid receptors in the brain before we started smoking weed (obviously, they dont appear out of nowhere and are found in individuals who never smoked weed), i believe this may be due to cannabinoids being released naturally by the brain (albeit in small doses) to calm nerves/self in a time of stress, anyone agree/disagree?

also, as the hippocampus of the brain which is mainly focused on memory (hence our bad memorys lol) absorbs most of the cannabinoids, surely the rest of the limbic system including the hypothalamus would get a good dosage too, and since stimulation of the hypothalamus leads to pleasure and hunger, is this why we feel "stoned" and get the munchies when we hit the weed?

i am interested to hear anyones views on this subject, please no "WeEd GeTs YoU StOnEd CoS tHaTs ItS fUnCtIoN DuUuUuDeEe" comments they arent helpful

    thanks

They are finding that endocannabinoids regulate mood, memory, and appetite, among other things.

good to see a budding stoner whos at least looked at neuroscience!

the first question is a simple one to answer. yes! there are natural cannabinoids in our brain. theyre called endocannabinoids as CC mentioned, and activate or deactivate functions on pyramidal cells. these cells are like the traffic intersections of neurons, channeling things like steering concentration aay from working memory and deeper towards whatever is on the mind at the moment, steering as many signals to perception, steering towards conception and away from preconception.

as for the secone question, this is stepping into much less known waters. you wont find lots of reliable information on brain fucntion, but you can work it out by surveying lots of sources and judging studies by your own observation.

PM me if youd like to know more info on cannabis in the brain, but not something im gonna type out in the stoned again forum ;)

Seriously, If you can think of complex shit like that ripped out of your mind you could do good when you're sober. I'm usually like "Crayons are made of wax."

Is your title to this thread a reference to the Ryan Adams song? Cause I was playing that when I saw it. Funny.
