i'm a teacher, looking to relocate and find a job at an alternative, 'hippish' school. has anyone been to one, or does anyone know of any? preferably in the pacific n.w.? i'm also certified to teach elementary school.
Maybe MLC (Metropalatin Learning Center) in Portland...I might some kids from their the other day, and it seemed pretty cool, from what they said.
I wish I went to a hippie high school. There are peaceful people here and there, but the majority would like to suck Bush's dick.
That problem was the reason I didn't get certified to teach...I knew it would be hard finding a school that was liberal enough to house the likes of me...ha. Anyway...I wish you luck trying to find a school that will work for you!
ever considered overseas schools? they often are small, family like places with an international student body. Teachers might not necessarily be hippies, I also met some extreme christians among them, but in generel, since it's so international, and located in another country, people are very openminded. Payment is usually a lot better then within the united states, plus you often get housing, and depending on the country, expenses for food, or a rent if you don't get housing are often pretty low compared to industrial nations. And they really are looking for qualified personel. I have been as a student in the American Cooperative School of Tunis, Tunisia, and as an intern in Sana'a international School in Sana'a, Yemen. I would never want to miss these experiences, and would recommend it for everyone, who's openminded. I am definately looking out for that after I got my teaching degree
Ahh alternative schools....I remember my elementary, every morning and early afternoon, we would sit in circle , the teacher would play guitar and all the kids would sing...hmm great memories...
Ooh! Ooh! Tacoma School of the Arts. It's sort of a public school... one of Tacoma's new projects to be more artsy. I knew some people who went there, and it is definitely a hip school. ~Nova

hmm...i've had a bit of luck. i checked out those sites listed above, and the schools seem rockin, esp. the art based one. i know someone who knows someone who is somewhere in the somethin for charter schools in san fran, so that might be a good lead too. i'm actually thinking, though, (winter blues) of looking for a job in costa rica. any thoughts on that?!
Can't help you there, other than to say if you want to...go for it! I think that would be cool. How's your Spanish? I'm hoping to work abroad for a bit...no set time of when, just one of my goals.
