Silly Angel - there you go with your bullshit racism claims again. tell me, do you have any non-white friends? pah, you're just a silly angel.
hey i have an idea!! lets make a thread asking who your favourite black actor is, because everyone knows that even the best black actor isnt anywhere near as good as the worst white one. yeah thats not racist.
For crying out loud, relax. No one is saying they are worse than white actors, they are just fewer. Would it be racist to ask people to post their favourite redhead actors? Or their favourite big-assed actresses?
Perhaps the real test to indicate if there is any brooding racism would be for someone to start a similar thread (a new one, because there has been one in the past) titled: "Who's your favourite actor/actress. Again, however, it will be no clear indication for racism if someone just chooses a white actor, e.g. if someone rates Tom Cruise as their favourite actor it doesn't mean that they are racist, it just means they lack good taste. But it will show how many people actually rate another human being without primary concern for the colour of their skin. I can declare here and now, that without any shade of doubt, my favourite actor is Wesley Snipes. And that's because if I was trapped on a plane with terrorists, Wes would kick their ass to kingdom come, instead of sitting in the toilet and quoting Hamlet. Rule Wesley! You're the man!
what the hell? i didn't say that. it's not my fault that there aren't many black actors, it's the illuminati-controlled production companies'.
First of all, I never said anyone was being racist. I'm not the one claiming that people think black actors aren't as good as white actors. Sheesh. If you actually READ my posts, you would know that. My issue is with categorizing unfairly. No one likes to be categorized by their race. The hair color thing applies the same way. But the funny thing is, no one ever asks questions like that because they are such silly and petty differences that NO ONE CARES. But for some reason, people see race as a difference other than skin. And yes, I do have non-white friends. I work with fewer white people than any other ethnicity. I have black friends, korean friends, hmong friends, hispanic friends. Trust me, being open-minded about race doesn't mean you haven't experienced other races. How ridiculous of a thought is that??
making a racial issue out of something that wasn't one.....or if anything was merely a positive way of celebrating actors of 1 race is ridiculous. Its counter productive to your goal. Your version of "non-racist ways to categorize things" eliminates peoples right to feel pride about there race. I doubt that was your goal. The funny thing is that I myself believe that all "racial pride" should be wiped out as it is the root that "us vs them" mentality stems from. So ultimately I'd support your point because it supports my beliefs! I didn't make the argument because I feel that picking and choosing more important battles is key to making the slightest difference
you're pretty screwed up ya know? i never fucking claimed that white actors were better than black actors! so stop recycling bullshit that other dimwits say! all i said was that there are much more white actors, and because of this, it's harder to pick the best white actor than the best black actor. there's MORE of them; get it?! and i was saying that if you want to know for sure you're not racist, you have to have some non-white friends. and race? it's all just the human race. i'm not the person that made up the word "racism", so don't blame me! nobody likes to be categorized? how do you know that? and besides, nobody really is being categorized! by saying "who is your favorite black actor?", you're not at all implying that black people are better or worse than white people. it's just another group of something for people to select their faves from. and lets not forget that all of these black people are different, just like all of the white, yellow, brown and green people are different. but not because of skin colour, because of singular personalities. every white person etc is different to eachother because of personalities. i bet you samuel l. jackson has a different personality than kevin spacey, and i bet you kevin spacey has a different personality to woody allen. and you know what else i bet, some black actors are better actors than white actors, and some white actors are better than black actors. wow. black people are meant to be better than white people at sports, but how can ya really tell?
Neither one of the people that responded to my post made any sense at all. Were you even responding to what I said?? I'll say it again, because apparently people are confusing me with someone else. I NEVER ACCUSED ANYONE OF BEING RACIST. THIS WAS NEVER AN ISSUE OF RACISM. I also never accused anyone of placing one race above another. That was someone else. Go back and read the posts, you'll see I'm not lying. My ONLY point to make was that when you use race as a way to categorize people, it's wrong. It's similar to categorizing people by hair color, body type, etc. But there is one difference. As a humans, the majority of people have accepted the fact that the color of your hair has absolutely no bearing on what type of person you are, however the majority has not fully accepted that about race. I too believe that race should be nothing more than a descriptor. "What color was his hair?" "What color was his skin?" Especially since so many people can't even be identified by their ethnicity anymore. Also, to the person that said that I'm picking a petty battle (not the exact words), well if you don't take a stand EVERY time, you're just being a hypocrite. Opposing sometimes. hiding out another time and not saying a word. My beliefs are not just there when it's convenient or when it's going to make a huge impact. They are there and expressable all the time. To the last person who found it necessary to FLIP OUT and swear at me and defend yourself against things I NEVER said, all I have to say is GROW UP and learn to read. Oh and if you guys don't think it's wrong, why don't you go tell Samuel L. Jackson that our website voted him their favorite black actor and see how excited he gets.
what's that? you're insane. you think that whenever black people or red headed people etc (you're categorizing right there, no?) are put in a group, they are instantly generalised or "categorized". i'm done with ya.
Hey you guys. Kiss and make up, or just ignore each other. You're only hurting each other's feelings. What's the point of that? There is nothing wrong with saying: "I can see your point, but I don't agree with it". And then carry on with the thread, or choose not to visit it if it causes offence. There's enough wars out there, ladies and gentlemen. If we start them in here as well then what hope have we hot of putting anything right?
When I posted "I'm not the one claiming white actors are better than black actors" I was refering to the person a while ago who was accusing you of saying that. I was saying that wasn't me. Get it?? And I'm not trying to start a war. But I'm really sick of people telling me to shut up because people aren't accepting my opinion. I don't expect everyone to accept it. But rather than being tactful and respectful about it, people are calling me insane and swearing at me, etc. So I figure I'll continue to defend my position. And besides that, I'm really just trying to clarify. Certain people are lumping me together with what other people have said. Some of the things they are bashing me for are things I have not said, and never would say because I don't even agree with them. I never accused anyone of being racist, acting racist, puting one race above another. That was someone else. It's gotten to the point where I'm hardly fighting for my opinion anymore, I'm rather just trying to get people to pay attention to what they are reading instead of skimming all the responses that don't agree with theirs and lumping them all together and then getting all pissy at me for things I never said.
I loved Ice Cube in the Friday movies. The 1st was the best, but the others without Chris Tucker were not my faves.
so hair color ok.....skin color wrong....... what about weight? who is your favorite FAT actor? Your argument that "categorization destroys equality" is a joke. Without categorization our brains wouldn't be able to make sense out of sensory information. I know your anti-racism standpoint is a good one but your not going to defeat racists by controlling what words they are allowed to use. You can't create freedom by taking it away. Good luck though!
Because history has a tendency to repeat itself, some people are concerned that we're becoming despondent in the world we live in. This can lead some members of society to become insensitive to certain issues that need to be addressed. Racism is still very much with us. We saw what happened in France recently. That violence will spread, perhaps to England where there is high inter-racial tension. I don't think anyone meant any harm in this thread though. After all, many of us would go and see a film where a black actor/actress is the protagonist because we know we'll see something that we will enjoy. Silly Angel is absolutely correct however to point out the damage prospect of 'categorization' . Don't forget that not very long ago the US used to segragate its population according to the colour of their skin. I think most of us realize that the shit is escalating under the current global leadership and I don't know if it's worse than when some of us lived in the Cold War period, but if people like Silly Angel don't remind us of certain moral values that we take for granted that everyone understands, then we could face another repetition of history: that of a German corporal rising to power on the wave of human ignorance.
