I haven't done any intoxicating drugs in 2 or 3 years (cause I had problems with them) except for alcohol. I was depressed and anxious a few days ago. So I went to an organic grocery store and bought a bottle of Kava Kava, there were 100 in it. I took 50. (I've heard that they don't do any damage to the heart or lungs or brain or anything, just a little liver damage, so I figured fuck it, I'm young). They took 30 minutes to kick in. When I felt them, I got super relaxed. It was a nice buzz. Hard to describe. It was like if acohol of tranquilizers are a 1, and op is a 10, this was like 5. I decided not to drive, so I stayed in my house and burned nag champa incense. I read a book for about 20 minutes and got sick of it, so I put on music. I listened to NIN, Phish, and Jimi Hendrix for a while. I didn't have a care in the world. I felt sort of euphoric, (but not in an agressive, stimulant way), just sort of an inner peace, and peace with the world. I haven't really felt that way in a long time. I figured I'd do it more often, but I had a problem. About 4 hours after I ate them, I fell asleep peacefully. But throughout the night I woke up like 4 or 5 times. The 5th time, I couldn't get back to sleep, so I just stayed up. IMPORTANT QUESTIONL: Is kava known to cause sleep disruption, or is there just something wrong with me?
"Just a little liver damage"? Man, people already have died due to liver failure after taking Kava Kava. That´s why this substance is forbidden already in more than 40 coutries!
i cant pop 50 pills without throwing up man thats crazy and where did you hear that kava is forbidden in 40 countries?
I´ve read it in several medical papers... To be more precise: it´s forbidden for medical use, but in some of the countries you can still buy it (but no longer in pharmacy stores). And some companies, that used to mix it into wellness-drinks (!) stopped doing this during the last years.
I just got back from Fiji, where consuming Kava is perfectly legal, and an important part of their culture. It's far less harmful than alcohol, which the locals would consume in massive quantities if kava was made illegal. I don't think consuming 50 pills at once is a good idea, however. The Fijians can easily drink more than 20 cups of kava (I can't stomach more than a few). Throughout the Pacific islands, kava is accepted and legal. As far as I know it's also legal in most other countries, as years of use in places like Fiji have shown it's effects to be relatively benign. As far as sleep disruption goes, it usually makes you sleep well, without any hangover the next day, which is why the local fijians love it!
Well, in the southern Pacific states, people are mostly used to kava. They normally start with small doses and then rise it. And they prepare it in special ways. That´s why they have less problems with their use of kava than Americans or Europeans. The kava extracts you normally get in America or Europe are much more dangerous, especially the pharmalogical prepared kava, mostly because their purity is higher. It´s the same as with cocain: chewing coca leaves is not very dangerous and natives in South America have done this for centuries. But the extract (cocaine) is a real big threat to the health of its users. And besides: kava is definitely liver toxic (regardless how you prepare it!) and liver cancer is a big problem in the states of the southern Pacific (now guess why...)!
You are correct. It's very difficult to measure the dose of commercial prepared extracts, whereas traditionally prepared kava (which itself can vary in strength), is never an overdose unless you get far beyond 20 or 30 cups. The key is moderation (in everything!).
