The Clash, Sex Pistols, Buzzcocks, Siouxsie and the Banshees, 80'S Damned were only in it for the money and were far to poppy for me. For me real punk bands were the more political bands like Crass, Subhumans, Zounds, The Ruts, Stiff Little Fingers, Poison Girls, Angelic Upstarts and X Ray Spex And the not so political Early Damned. I am not to keen on the more Oi bands llike Sham 69 and the Business The Ramones, MC5, Blue Cheer and of course Iggy Pop were of course a main influence on UK punk.
Hey there everyone: I love the Ramones~ I have a Tattoo on my right upper arm of them! I live in Brooklyn New York! get to C.B.G.B's before it closes! GGH[Gabba Gabba Hey]
Right on. It IS too hard to classify it. And then you get all the punk snobs that will put you down because you like a SUM41 song. Watever. I like what I like and listen to what I want to listen too. I like all the old school stuff and all that, but SUM41 rocks. Their latest cd seems more metal influenced anyway. Punk is about being your own person, doing your own thing. Feeling like you have to conform by only listening to certain bands and wearing certain clothes is not punk. It has become more commercialized, but that happens to pretty much everything that catches popularity. Just another way for people to cash in. Nothing wrong with htat I guess, it's the society we live in. And wow, a DKM fan from Finland. That's awesome. How'd you get into them? Ever see them? I've been into them for years, but I grew up not too far from Boston, so they still feel like a local band to me.
Guttermouth. NOFX. Fugazi. Black Flag. Descendents. Sublime (some of it was punk). Falling Idols. The Vandals. Sex Pistols. Dead Kennedys. Bad Brains. Anti-Flag. Buzzcocks. Rancid. Misfits. SEX PISTOLS,ramones, the distillers,anti-flag,tsunami bomb, afi(more goth-punk),the adicts, the clash,pennywise,rancid,babyshambles,libertines... I really dont think that you necessarily have to be political in order to be punk. i think the music is all about anger and resentment- and wether it be towards the government or a person in particular-it doesnt matter. so yeah...regardless what people say i stil consider the ramones to be true punk rock...
