I know a little about it. Isn't that where they remove the woman's clitoris?

 

They whack off the lot. Prepuce, clitoris, labia.

With a razor blade.

They then sew up what's left and the husband gets to cut her back open and use her when he sees fit.

This is one of those instances I pull up to suggest that maybe we CAN critique other cultures.

Yes please. When I told my mother that if I had a boy I would not circumsize (aka MGM) and she said, well, I used to agree with you, but there is a new study out that shows men who were circed have a lower chance of contracting AIDS than those who were NOT circed. WTF?!? Like that is a reason to cut my future son's penis?

 

I read an article on this once, and sometimes women have it done to them on purpose, because "it can help them focus more on their husband's pleasure" over their own. Of course, there are tons of little girls who have it done with no say in the matter, because their parents think it's right, but it's illegal to be done in the U.S. until a person is 18 and can consent to it on their own. Other countries though... It was a Jane or Glamour article, so it didn't go into too much detail--just enough to make me feel horrible about the whole thing.~Nova

 

Actually, the vast majority of circs these days are done at the request of the mother, who does not wish to clean or otherwise have to deal with her son's penis. Believing it neater, cleaner, more hygienic and generally less bother - that trumps the fact that it's part of her child's genitalia.

I've actually heard a woman say "well, he hurt my hoo hoo coming out, so frankly, I've no sympathy for him."

 

YOu've made this statement before and it sickens me everytime. "Let's cut up our children because giving birth is painful?"

Some people shouldn't be parents.

And about circumsition--- I don't think a mother, a father, or anyone has the right to make that sort of choice for a baby boy.

This may seem a bit weird too, but I don't agree with parent's who get their little girls' ears pierced when they are basically newborns. That should be the childs choice when they are old enough to decide whether they want any body modification or not.

As to male circ, and female circ, the female one (in the mutilation sense)
is far worse than losing a little foreskin. Imagine losing forskin all the
way down, and testicles, then having it sewn to your stomach until needed.

Male circ happens when you are born (normally) and is forgotten, female
circ is done when the girl is older, ready to be married, and quite tramatic.

It pisses me off. Male circ is unfortunate, but hardly tragic.

 

Problem is, I couldn't tell you if it was or wasn't cause I have no frame of reference to compare.

I could argue that the girl still has certain parts, it's no big deal.
