This is something I just learned today.

I always thought that the Immaculate Conception referred to the conception of Jesus in Mary's womb. That's actually the Virgin Birth.

The Immaculate Conception is the conception of Mary without original sin (I have a feeling this doctrine came about when people began to wonder how Jesus could be sinless if he were born of a sinful mother.) Check it out...you learn something new everyday.

I wasn't posting this to say that I think the Catholic Church is corrupt.

I posted it to show that I was investigating and learned something new about Christian faith.

Christians do investigate their faith... (well, maybe this is a bad example of investigation since I'm not Catholic.)

    eh anyway . .

Sadly, I have to agree. As I understand it, this idea evolved from pagan legends.

Yeah, the divine birth immaculate conception thing came from other
European pagan beliefs. It happened alot, and way before Jesus.

Mithra is a prime example, Mithra was also born Dec 25, had 12 followers,
had a last supper before being arrested and killed. Followers of his cult
took place in a ritual of eating the flesh and drinking the blood, and several more.

Hercules was born to a virgin by a god.
Cuchulain was born through divine conception.

    And the list goes on.

Dionisys was also hung on a cross way before Jesus.

Christianity is such an original religion!!

That God entertained and educated more primitive cultures with similar stories is not surprising. These are the roots of the tree of Christianity. The branches are obvious to those who see them, although even these branches will be buried in time and become roots of something new.

Yes. God works through history...and, I think, perhaps the human subconscious or..what's that Jung referred to? The great unconscious?

Isn't it amazing to think that people had the same concerns over the past few millenia? That's awesome.
