shit man....you can go to michaels and uy a beginner kit to get you started just so you can get the idea and then from there you could probably jsut look at other peoples designs and figure them out yourself....peace.

When you say with hemp...do you mean hemp fabric or hemp rope? If your looking for rope patterns for jewelery and accessories, just buy a book that teaches how to make knots. For clothing... I suggest going to a fabric store and searching the patterns for clothing you like and then buying the hemp fabric from a place that sells certified organic hemp.

yeah well rope would be for jewellery etc and fabric for clothes, can I just use any pattern for the fabric? do you have to buy the fabric instead of making them from scratch?
    thanks for your replies!! xx

I think maybe you mean 'do you have to buy the pattern?', right? (not the fabric).

Well, If you're very new to sewing, I would recommend that you start by trying out patterns from the store.

I have been sewing for a long time. I never see a pattern that's exactly what I want. So, sometimes, I'll buy a cheap pattern that's sort of like what I want and I'll change it. Or I'll use a piece of clothing that I like the fit of and turn it inside-out and trace the parts. That way I know that it will fit and that the sleeves and armholes will match up, etc.

It's fun to experiment if you're not frustrated easily. Also, hemp fabric can be expensive. If you're trying out a homemade sewing pattern for the very first time, you might want to use cheaper fabric.

Have fun. And think about what sucks about other people's stuff and make yours better that way. For example, I bought a pair of hemp pants at a local store, trying to give then some business, and the label said it was washable, but one time through the drier and it shrunk about 40%! I would never do that to people.
