ladies what do u know about female circumcision, has anyone ever been circumcised, How does it make u feel?
From what I've read in a couple magazine it's a horrible experience and makes sex extremely painful. It's mainly used today as a cultural thing.
I doubt any of the ladies that post of this forum have been mutilated... err.. i mean, circumcised. How does it feel? Just ducky, I imagine. Because what woman wouldn't want to be held down, have her clitorus and labia cut off with a shard of broken glass by her Uncle or Father, and then sewn up completely with only a little hole left open to pee out of? Sounds like a good time to me.
First, there is a wide range of practices -- some as bad as you describe, some where just the tip of the clit is clipped off... So not really all that much worse than male genital mutilation aka circumcision. Second, in most of the examples that I've read about, it has been a woman, not a man, who performs the snip. No, I have not been mutilated. But I do find it frustratingly ethnocentric when Americans rail about how horrible this practice is without even giving a second thought to the way we mutilate little boys on a daily basis. (For the record, I think both male and female circumcision are horrible.)
I have no kids, no sons... I have never descided the fate of a single foreskin. If I ever have sons, they will not be circumcised. I don't know every accounting of female circumcision. The ones I have heard have been simular of what I recounted. Never ment to sound like I was the reining expert... just expressing my horror at the practice.
You'd be amazed at how many people I've discussed this with who will say how horrible FGM is, but then vehemently defend male circumcision, as if that's perfectly ok and normal, not disfiguring at all, no impact on sensation or anything. Neither am I, but I've read a few accounts of it for an anthropology class. One of the articles was actually written by a woman who lived in the US, was in college at some really good university here (George Washington in DC, I think)... She chose of her own free will to go back to her native country to be circumcised. Then she wrote the article about her experiences, which shed a very different light on the practice than what you get from a lot of non-anthropologists -- the difference being that most people judge practices by their own society's standards instead of trying to find out the whole cultural context of the event (which is what anthropologists study). This woman's experiences were not quite typical -- if her family could afford to move to the US, she's obviously more financially well-off than most in her native village. So she was able to have an actual medical person (a nurse practitioner I think) perform it with local anesthetic... But in some countries where it's just a little snip from the tip of the clit, women actually have it done in hospitals! But if this adult, college-educated woman in the US chose to go back to have it done, there's a hell of a lot more to it than just an oppressive practice imposed by the men in power (as many people portray it).
"I'm a female, and I was circumcised a little over two years ago to correct a problem of a hidden clitoris, I couldn't get enough stimulation to it normally, without going through some uncomfortable maneuvers. I had a friend who had it done and it helped her, so I complained to my GYN about my difficulties. My GYN was hesitant to do it and I had to tell her several times how much trouble I was having reaching orgasm during intercourse because I had such a long hood. Finally I said I would do it myself if she refused. This got her attention and we set up an appointment a few days later and she circumcised me. She had me sign a paper that she was not responsible for any problems caused by the operation and it was at my request. I guess she was protecting herself since so many DR's are being sued if something goes wrong. The results of the operation were wonderful and I only wish I had known about it sooner." http://www.circlist.com/femalecirc/anatfemale.html guys seem pretty happy with being circumcised, in my experience. i've asked a few what they think about it and they say that they'd never want a foreskin. /shrug
there is a slight difference between a young boy being circumcized and girl who is having her first period being torn to desert by her female relatives, who will then use knife to cut off her pussy lips or simply destroy her clit to be sure that sex will never be enjoyable for her so she will not cheat on her future husband and so on... and this is how it still works in some places :S
here are some facts ... Female circumcision is mainly carried out in western and southern Asia, the Middle East and large areas of Africa. It is also known to take place among immigrant communities in the USA, Canada, France, Australia and Britain, where it is illegal. In total it is estimated that two million a year are subjected to genital mutilation. There are three main types of circumcision: The removal of the tip of the clitoris; Total removal of the clitoris and surrounding labia; The removal of the clitoris and labia and the sewing up of the vagina, leaving only a small opening for urine and menstrual blood - a process known as infibulation. So drastic is the mutilation involved in the latter operation that young brides have to be cut open to allow penetration on their wedding night and are customarily sewn up afterwards.
to synaptic aether, i think what was done to you is very different than what i was talking about. the point of female circumcision is to harm nerves, so you wouldn't feel any pleasure, but your case was opposite. i'm very glad for you, that your problem got solved and you can have more enjoyable sex and full orgasms.. and i'm deeply sorry for all those girls who can never know the positive meaning of sex that is known to you and me...because of the female circumcision
ps i live in a country where it is difficult to find a cock that has been circumcized ( meaning: i haven't seen one) and i think both female and male circumcision should be rather illegal than legal
Yes...just be aware, synaptic, that fgm is practiced by force and in non-sterile environments for many women in the world. Although you may have had it for a medical reason, it is much more than "just a cultural thing" for many women on earth. It's life-threatening and forced, Check out more at http://www.amnesty.org/ailib/intcam/femgen/fgm1.htm BTW, The Christian faith is a great answer,..maybe not your answer, but a great answer. Peace sistah, ..
no no, oh god... notice that that was QUOTED and then SITED... it's not me saying it. jeezus.... disagree... it IS "fgm"- even when it's wanted for constructive reasons - it's called "fgm". i learn this through research... and it's deffenatly under the category of "female circumcision". i'm not saying that most of the time it's not unwanted, unhealthy and traumatic, therefore bad. i'm just broadening the thread's view of all types and reasons for it - since it's about female circumcision in general. i hate having to use bold because the thread is obviously full of people who are most likely going to overlook what you've really said... ps... i just thought i was amusing to see funkyphresh proclaim that. it just tickled me right so i put it in my sig. that's all.
Wow. Interesting that I automatically glossed over the term female circumcision and went straight to female genital mutilation. I apologize for that
pintitblack; you are right, but at the same time you also must acknowledge the fact that we do mutilate little boys in the U.S.A. and elsewhere in the World. If it is un-consenting, it MUST BE mutilation. Male or Female. Period. It is true one is worst than the other. But they are both wrong.
so if female circumcision was always done in a sterile environment like male circumcision is done in america it would be better? please. Men die all the time in africa from circumcision due to it being done in rituals and such, nobody cares in the least. how can we judge them for their mutilation while we continue our own
You ladies put (us) men to shame. You have sensible discussions, and tend to listen to each other. I have admiration for Synaptic and Cloud7. Why? Both have the guts to take steps to improve their situation. In Synaptic's case she had the guts to have a medical procedure to improve her sex life with the release or removal of a restrictive Clitoral hood. That is a good thing. She even had the fortitude to push the doctor into it. Ironically, even as a person against circumcision in infants and children with out medical reason. I am glad the procedure exist for men who have a tight foreskin that does not retract. I appears the genders share a lot in common. In Cloud7, he is equally courageous. He undertook steps to restore to the best of his ability a wrong that was done to him. And what is most interesting about this man is that his post do not convey anger. In fact he tries his best advise other men with out malice. Paintiblack has it right. We should not circumcise babies or children unless there is a very good medical reason to do so. And these are far and few between. I guess we should look at like this; female/male circumcision is a good thing if the women/man is having a problem. FGM and MGM can not be justified under any circumstance when it is done without the consent of the person. Period. To alter someone's normal body or body parts with out their consent IS the definition of MUTILATION. Of course there is also self mutilation which requires no explanation. The most sever form of FGM is even more horrible than you can possibly imagine. I almost hate to tell you this. When the women of the tribe do this to their young women. They not only cut away the clitoris and labia. They cut the clitoris away so aggressively they cut down to bone. Sorry about that ladies. My fingers are shaking just typing this. What is so unbelievable is that this is women doing this to women. Many of these girls die not only from the mutilation but also from infection and AIDS afterwards. Unfortunately the horrors don't stop there. However you will be grateful to hear that I will stop talking about this. Please have a good day. It is a very disturbing adult topic.
