    Hello
I am writing this to the ladies (or gentlemen) out there who do such beautiful work with their craft. You know who you are. I was wondering how you all got started and if this is your only source of income. I have thought about going to a textiles school. Did any of you go to a special school for design or sewing? Also, where do you get a tax i.d. and did you take some business courses to start your own out of your home. That's the only problem with me. I am currently going to a liberal arts college full time, I have 2 kids of my own plus a stepchild and will have to start working next week. I am taking on too much and would much rather start doing some brainstorming with crafts and such. I do sew, but don't have a serger or a workroom in my home.
Can I get any background info on the innerworkings of home run buisness etc. If it's not too much trouble. ;)
    Thanks

well chill mama, my mother had a home based business when I was in the 10th and 11th grade and I think that is what got me going. the govt is great as far as grants go for small business. i havent done this yet but i really need to write a business plan and get my tax id and such....

i don't do the sewing full time, i probly make just enough for family entertainment and misc. groceries right now but i could probly step up and earn more if i wanted to get my lazy ass in check [IMG]

i sat down with a note pad and made a list of products i wanted to carry and i am currently drawing everything i want to make in a sketch pad.

hope that helped a little bit......... i will find some info on grants and home based business later on today and pm you any good info i get.

First thing you should do is go to your federal/state building and apply for a tax id number so that you are doing things legally. Then set up shop either on the web or just locally.

I agree with FunkyPhreshMama. Also you should start putting your stuff on ebay and maybe making enough for and ebay store.
Or try http://www.shoppingcartsplus.com/ its easy to build a business in there, also cheap and they even got free trials. I know you mostly need a merchant account which you can get at any bank or get in paypal.com. Hope that helped too. holla.
