i like avg better, cuz its free though i use both cuz i got norton free from school, though it hasnt been able to update in a couple weeks:S
I think AVG an Avast antivirus are very good and powerfull alternatives to Norton antivirus the home edition of avast can be used indefinitely after registration and the features are full blown and user friendly. Both are free alternatives to Norton... In combination with a security policy you can avoid a great deal of security threats. 1)not opening attachments from emails you do not trust and avoiding unsafe websites and packages. 2)periodicaly scanning your system (disconnected from the net). 3)using a firewall (sygate, zone alarm, outpost firewall). 4)sytem/memory defragmentation. 5)using antispyware software (adaware, spybot). 6)using antiphising web tools. 7)regularly updating your system with security updates security consciousness is the first defense against virus/malware
NOD32 puts all other AV software to shame. Norton sucks in my opinion. It uses up a lot of RAM, and the detection rate isn't that great. NOD32 has a great detection rate and is light on system resources.
I recently bought a new Dell Dimension 3000, that came with Norton/Symantec anti-virus, and had nothing but problems with it, and the Norton on-line support sucked. I went to Best Buy and picked up a CD from TrendMicro: PC-cillin, and it works great, updates regularly, hasn't crashed my computer, runs scans very fast.
Etrust by Computer Associates lacks some of the features of Norton and Mcafee, however it is a good virus scanner, much better than any of the free scanners and for $40 you get lifetime definition file updates, with Norton and Mcafee you must renew your license every couple of years to keep getting updates.
what is the best soup....the best brand of sneakers...the cest car....the best tv station... so many people ask questions that vcan't be objectively answered....what's the best for one, is a horror to another....take a look at the paypal thread to see what i'm talking about if you're comfortable with it, like it, etc....that's the best one for you
I use vipre antiVirus it's the best I've ever used and trust me I've used nearly all of them out there.
Yes, NOD32 is excellent. I had it on my previous machine. When my free trial of Norton expires on this one, I'll probably download it once again.
I have used a lot of them but I am currently sticking with AVG and Windows Essentials (the built-inWin7 antivirus) and those two are perfectly fine. I don't find myself browsing through forbidden areas of the internet and I pretty much know what and where I do so I have no need for anything else.
