I have spent the day alone listening to Sirius '60s Vibrations station (suppose to be cleaning the house) and was overwhelmed at the range of emotions that came over me! From the innocence of the "bubble gumish" songs where I was re-living driving to our local beach and swimming; hanging out at the local drive-in checking out who was there and hoping they would come over to talk (giggle, giggle), cruising the "strip" checking out who was in town and hoping they would stop at the parking lot ( giggle, giggle); getting kicked out of school for wearing blue jeans (horrors!); :p going to "Old Town" in chicago!!!!! Walking for Earth Day!
    then, the tears.....
    the "conflict" was escalating, my friends older brothers were being called up and not coming home; protests turning violent; watching war coverage was considered "normal" (kinda like today) ;

What I have a difficult time with today is, those young people that were protesting, dodging the draft (by what ever method they could) are now running the country....DID THEY FORGET???

guess I will wipe away the tear, change the station and maybe get back to cleaning the house.

    PEACE!!!!!

The "bad" ones are running the country. The "good" ones are trying to get them out of the White House. Fight the good fight. Don't give up. There are still alot of good people around, some are even in here in these forums, trying to change the world in small ways....for the better.

Put on a different album.....John Mayall's "Room To Move", "California" are two songs that totally erase my mind from all negativity.......

.....change your latitude, or change your attitude....whichever is easier.....Peace!

One of my favorite tunes from the 60s era is by the Youngbloods. "Come on people now, smile on your brother, everybody get together, try to love one another right now."

What more can you say? What a breath of fresh air compared with all the negative lyrics in today's music.

Music sure can put you back in a moment.

OH the range of emotions are really something.
I'm learning "Love is all around" by the Troggs, what a trip it is to be playing that, a blast from the past..."I feel it in my fingers...I feel it in my toe's..."

I have the same reaction to some smells...when I lived at EPP we had fires everynight and pine was all around us so thats what we burned, a bon fire with everyone sitting around, out in the Vermont woods, playing music, singing, passing the herb and jugs of wine...

To this very day (32 years later)when Larry and i have our fires, or if we're driving down the road and I catch a whiff, I can close my eyes and I'm right back there.

Great thread! Wow, such memories...yes, I was a Troggs fan too. The Animals "House of the Rising Sun" is still a favorite. All of Peter Paul and Mary's songs. Joni Mitchell. Tommy James and the Shondells "I think we're alone now...there doesn't seem to be anyone around...". And still to this day my all time favorite song "When a Man Loves a Woman" by Percy Sledge. Black light posters, Earth shoes, waterbeds, incense ("Incense and peppermint(sing it now!)) packing boxes of goodies to send to the neighbor kid in 'Nam. Mourning the 3 from my little high school that did not come home. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Those people are not running the country. Unfortunately it is the "others" that are making a fine mess of that. You know, the ones who got exempt from the draft 'cos daddy had big bucks, or they joined the ROTC, or got student defferment (can't spell it). Heck, some of 'em even went to Nam. I like to hope that the young people of that time as you describe are being our social concience.

Ah, but the music. Crosby, Stills and Nash; Jethro Tull, Jefferson Airplane, Janis, Jimmy and somany more. They will not be forgotten. My children all became deadheads during the 80s.

Did anyone notice that a lot of that music is being used on commercials and TV shows now? Gotta get thoseold hippies buying stuff.

Yes, Grendel's right. We're Not running the country. Those People, Us, back in the 60's were pushed to extremes, and our experimentation with ways-of-life and our protests turned out like the game "Telephone". There was no code then, and I am scratching my head in wonder at how there is one now. Our children, now in their late 30's and early 40's, somehow... someway, started wanting Everything to be Politically Correct. Well, they're getting their wish these days... Me? I'm out in the countryside keeping my head low.

Moody Blues - Lost In A Lost World

I woke today, i was crying
    Lost in a lost world
    So many people are dying
    Lost in a lost world
Some of them are living an illusion
Bounded by the darkness of their minds
In their eyes it's nation, against nation, against nation
    With racial pride
    Sounds...
    Thinking only of themselves
    They shun the light
    (shun the light)
    They think they're right
    (think they're right)
    Living in their empty shells

Oh, can you see their bodies thrashing
(so many people, so many people)
    Crashing down around their feet
    Angry people in the street
Telling them they've had their fill
    Of politics, people who kill

    Grow... the seed of evolution
(so many people, so many people)
    Revolution everyone
It's just another form of gun
To do again what they have done
Let all our brothers come and get some
(so many people, so many people)

Everywhere you go you see them searching
Everywhere you turn you feel the pain
Everyone is looking for the answers
Well look again, come on my friend
Love will find us in the end
    Come on my friend
    (on my friend)
    We've got to bend
    (got to bend)
Down on our knees and say a prayer

Oh, can you see the world is pining
(so many people, so many people)
Pining for someone who really cares enough to share his love
With all of us so we can be
    An ever loving family
Have we forgotten who loves who
(so many people, so many people)
    Children from a family tree
    That's longer than a centipede
Started long ago when you and i
    Where only love....
(so many people, so many people)

I woke today, i was crying
    Lost in a lost world
    So many people are dying
    Lost in a lost world
So many people, so many people
People lost in a lost world
So many people, so many people
People lost in a lost world
