does anyone have any really good iced tea recipes? i've been making my iced tea by the glass lately....and i'm wanting to make a big batch of it..... so....got any ideas, recipes, tips?
I make some green tea chai, unsweetened, and steap it for a long time so it gets really strong. I then pour it into an ice cube tray (must make a full tray) once it's room temperature. The next day, once frozen, I make 3/4 of a pitcher of black tea chai, sweetened only with a tsp of honey or two, let it steep so it's strong, about 10 minutes. I take the tea bags out (or strain the loose tea) and pour in my tray of chai cubes and give it a good mix. That's very good.
To make a gallon of ice tea, you can boil four small teabags in 1-2 cups of water for a minute. Add your hot tea, 3/4 cup of sugar to a gallon pitcher and fill it up with water. Put it in the frigerator til cool. That's how I always make it. Or you can just put your sugar and water in the gallon pitcher with just the teabags in the sun til it's as dark as you like to make sun tea. You may want to use up to seven teabags for this.
My mom always boils a pot of water and adds in 1 and 1/2 cup of sugar and a small hand full of tea bags, then boils it. As soon as you see it boil turn it off. then pour it into a pitcher, and fill the pitcher the rest of the way with water. Yummie tea. You probably should stick to the green tea though. Hah.
Oooo Sun Tea...my Grandma makes the best iced tea! Too bad it's getting closer and closer to that time of year where there won't be too much sun--in Oregon, at least! I'm gonna have to get her to show me how when she comes up here.
I tend to drink A LOT of iced tea... go figure, eh? I use these mint green tea bags, clover honey and fresh ginger. Set a pot of water to boil, add a couple spoonfuls of honey and some grated ginger root. Once boiling I remove the pot, and add 4 tea bags. I let them steep for a long time... I like it stong. Remove bags and ginger if you want (ginger floatys don't bother me), split it up into my 4 different liter bottles, and then top them with water. Sometimes, I add cranberry juice... sometimes peach juice... depends on what is around.
iced tea is like my favorite thing ever to drink... sweetened or unsweetened.. doesnt matter... this is how i make mine. to make about 1 gallon: 4 or 5 Liptons family sized tea bags 1 cup sugar (its sweet but not too sweet) put some water on to boil, and just before it does drop in the bags.. once it starts to boil, i take the pan off the heat and let it steep for at least 5 minutes... while this is going on, and if it's to be sweet, i pour the sugar into the picher and add warm water so that it's already dissolved when i get ready to add the tea (we used to only have a glass picher, so i learned the hard way to do this so as not to crack the glass by pouring hot tea into a cold picher... ) then i pour the tea in, and i run water on the bags and pour from the pan until the water starts to get clear, and then i fill up the picher the rest of the way from the tap.. and thats it i've gotten a lot of compliments on my sweet tea - even from people who normally only like unsweet... icedteaprincess (lovely name btw ) - i never thought of adding juice to my tea - i'll have to try that.. sounds good -stykz-

Man, my dad made me drink some kind of tea last night with honey and something alcoholic in it. It made my throat all kinds of better. Aparently a lot of southerns used to drink it back in the day.
i don't usually drink the caffeine stuff, only herbal tea for me! but if you're looking for something to ice, red tea is incredible & has its own natural sweetness plus it's sooo good for you - full of vitamins & trace minerals in the summer, mints are nice b/c they are VERY cooling

Freeze the punch, working it vigorously with the spattle while it is being frozen. A few minutes before serving, mix together the rum, green tea, brandy, and champagne. Add the ice, and stir briskly till it dissolves. A pint of pineapple syrup may be added. This punch should be thick and creamy in appearance. If it is too thick to be poured into glasses, it should be thinned with a little more champagne. Iced Roman punch should be served in high glasses between the first and second courses.
Gah. I bought so much Luzianne tea coming back from Bonnaroo. You can't get family sized tea bags up here, I don't think. I'm making some right now. All I've been drinking since Roo is tea/sweet tea/etc. Lately I've been doing a green tea-lime-honey thing. Boil 4 cups water, once boiling, add 8 small green tea bags, cover and let steep five minutes or so, then add about 1/3-1/2 cup honey, depending on what you like, and the juice of two limes. Add another 4 cups of cold water and stir. Otherwise, I just do a standard black sweet tea deal, and there are already enough good recipes similar to mine in this thread.
