i'm supposed to be getting some tomorrow from a friend's friend, because basically nobody else has them here. but today my friend told me that they are, um, "blue laughing mushroom". has anyone ever heard of these or know what they are? mark.
i've heard of Gymnopilus spectabilis mushrooms being called "big laughing gems" they are quite a bit weaker than cubensis, iirc, and possibly will cause more stomach upset. also, they aren't too commonly used for this purpose, so i'd not be too sure how confident i'd be in someone elses ability to identify them properly, depending on what they seem to know about mushroom hunting.
maybe he meant psilocybe cubensis, with blue stains on them (oxidized psilocin). normal cubensis mushrooms with lots of blue on them have a high regard on the street as being more potent, so maybe he meant that because they're blue they're something special. it wouldn't be the first time someone invented some obscure and pointlessly esoteric term for a common drug. also, and this is very unlikely, he could have gone as far as to dye a mushroom blue by soaking it in water with blue food coloring to make it seem like something rare and exotic, so he could sell it for more. that would be silly, though.
psilocybe cubensis is far from being potent. it requires at LEAST 3-4g dry for a good trip. there are much stronger.
I guess we're getting some this weekend, and the only thing my cousin told me, is that they're "huge mushrooms" (compared to the small caps/stems we've been eating...which i have no idea what are called). He said an 1/8th will provide an unbelievable trip. mark.
holmes the blue means fuck all... lol the blue is a natural bruise that occurs during picking, it gives it no extra value it is nothing more then a pleasent asthetic feature. And laughing? i haven`t found a mushroom yet that hasn`t given me one good fit at least
actually "big laughing gym" is a nickname for a certain species rather than strain (Gymnopilus spectabilis) which, though a psilocybian mushroom, is not in the genus Psilocybe or the genus Panaeolus, and is not -closely- related to nearly any of the commonly used psilocybian mushrooms. it is comparatively quite weak, and i've heard claims that its not really worth taking unless you use an MAO inhibitor. these very rarely stain blue, iirc. never eaten them myself, but they are reported to cause more stomach upset than most mushrooms, mostly due to the need to eat more for a similar effect.
Ahh i c.... never really heard of people eating these either except seeing pictures in ID guides and various websites.
