any one dream of trying brightstars method? Looks good to me but i keep hearing that is has some errors. dr. drool has an updated version of the brightstar dream, did he correct everything...is there even a better way? I just want a nice dream...i hate nightmares
The big problem with the BS technique is that a key reagent (p-Benzoquinone) is pretty heavily watched nowadays, probably because that synth was so widely spread around the 'net. You used to be able to order it from any good darkroom chemical supplier, but nowadays they want all kinds of personal info before they will sell you any. The "MethylMan" variation on the reductive amination worked better than BS's original technique, and should be available from one of the Rhodium archive sites. Do you have a link to the "DrDrool" writeup? I don't think I've ever read that one...
There are so many ways it's not even funny. DrDrool's major "update" was just using an Al/Hg amalgum with nitromethane to reductively aminate by forming methylamine in situ rather than synthesizing it beforehand, which is not all that difficult IMHO. His writeup is decent, but there are better ways. Think bromo.
The Dr. Drool write up is in the Rhoidum archive in Erowid. p-Benzoquinone is pretty easy to get for me...its the damn DCM...dont want to distill it from auto-shop shit.......
DCM is pretty easy to get OTC from plastics suppliers. It is used for solvent-welding acrylic and polycarbonate. "Rez-N-Bond" is one brand name for a product that appears to be straight (technical grade) DCM. A quick run through a distillation rig would still be advisable, though. DCM is such a common solvent, that even going to a chem supplier for it is pretty low-risk.
Thanks.... on to another topic.....what about decomposing hexamine as a source for methylamine....is this a good route to go?
If you have a good OTC source for hexamine these days, go for it. Most of the camping fuel tablets being sold nowadays are adulterated with something, probably to prevent the use of the hexamine as an improvised explosive. There's always paraformaldehyde and ammonia. Stinky but effective.
