Just saw it. I'm not going to give anything away, but if you're a fan of the game, or liked Cameron's 'Aliens' then the possibility is that you're going to enjoy this. I'd never thought to see the day when I would say: "Well done, Hollywood. You got it right." At long last it looks like the movie barons are listening to the fans and giving them what they want. After many comic book and video game disappointments on the silver screen, they have finally decided to emulate the winning formula initiated by the makers of Sin City and give something back to the millions of fans who flock to the cinema to see their cult heroes. The setting, the weapons, the atmosphere, the cardkeys, the powerups, the monsters, the exploding barrels, the noises (when you realize there's a monster in the vicinity), the teleporters, they're all there and more. At one stage you even feel like you're playing the game (you'll see what I mean). This is what homage is all about. The actors played their parts fittingly. The SFX were impressive without being distracting. Rock was even better than I expected and didn't steal the limelight a la Arnie style. My only minus point was that it was a bit slow moving in the beginning, so that it could explain to the non-initiated what it was all about, but the essence of horror, adventure, science fiction and ever present doom was all there. Overall: 9 out of 10
as in comic, game transformed to big screen i would put Xmen 2 and Spider Man 2 pretty high on the list, but i havent seen doom yet so who knows, could top em, but i'm just not impressed at all with changing the true story line to please Christians or somthing
I liked it, but I'm really disappointed that it had nothing to do with hell. Good movie, good acting, good action, but who ever penned the screenplay was way off.
I've had second thoughts and whilst I enjoyed the film, maybe like some kid seeing Disneyland for the first time, you are right. The film would have had a closer semblance to the original game if it followed the demonic plot. If there's a sequel maybe they'll revert to the proper story line. Obviously, at the rate they were going, I knew that it would be impossible to get everything in. In the sequel, if I was the scriptwriter, I would have science abandoning man, as they realize that the virus was just a by-product of something a lot more sinister. I would also add the red pentagram circles next time round as they descend into Mars and eventually Hell. Boo-ha-ha-ha-ha! Also it needs flying skulls and those brainspiders. AND huge demons with rocket launchers attached to their arms. Plenty room for many sequels.
Alright, but apart from the lack of Trites, Ticks, Giant Commando Zombies, Cherubs, Imps that throw fireballs, Pinkies, Lost Souls, Cacodemons, Hell Knights, Mancubus, Revenants, Arch Viles, 2 headed- maggots, Wraiths, Vagary (boss), Guardians (boss), Sabaoth (boss), Cyberdemons (boss), sentry bots, rocket launchers, plasma rifles, and soul cubes, what have the Romans ever done for us?
DAMN RIGHT!!!! I was SO disappointed with this movie. I would give it a 5/10. No hell?? WTF, thats is the whole focal point of the game, and should have been in the movie as well. Overall I'd say: Acting: 8 Story: 2 (cuz they strayed so far from the game it isnt even funny) Characters: 5, could have been more character development. Overall, I'm not impressed with it.
The movie was cool for what it was, but it took shit all from the game. too much taken from the resident evil movies IMO, tho much impressed by the revamp of the doom theme and use of FPS style, very watchable.
